Empowering Young Women, Changing The World
Introducing the New President of Serviam Girls Academy
Dear Members of the Serviam Girls Academy Community,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jacqueline Jefferies Barnett as the 6th President of Serviam Girls Academy. Jacqueline will begin her tenure on July 1, 2023.

During the search process, Jacqueline impressed everyone she met with her energy and enthusiasm for Serviam’s mission.  As a mother of twin girls, who are both recent graduates of the University of Virginia, Jacqueline has seen first-hand how a nurturing, supportive and challenging single-sex educational environment can instill confidence and empower young women to reach their full potential.  We were looking for a President who embraced our mission and was a dynamic, visionary, and faith-based leader with demonstrated success working collaboratively to bring ideas to execution. We found these qualities and more with Jacqueline.

Jacqueline brings to Serviam a breadth of experience in the for-profit, nonprofit, and governmental environments where she has demonstrated the ability to build relationships with students, parents, families, supporters, benefactors, multinational corporations, and community-based organizations. Most recently, she served as Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Register of Wills Office for the City of Philadelphia. She has served as Interim CEO at the Charter High School for Architecture and Design in Philadelphia, Community Outreach Coordinator at the Educational Opportunity Center of the University of Pennsylvania, Secretary of Education for the Office of the Mayor in Philadelphia, and Senior Education Policy Advisor for the US House of Representatives.
As I and the Search Committee have worked with Jacqueline during the search process, she has commented on the deep commitment the Serviam community has to its mission. Jacqueline also said “Serviam has a rich history, established traditions and a track-record of success and I am humbled and honored to lead Serviam Girls Academy in the years ahead.”
I would like to conclude by extending thanks and recognition. First, to Peggy Prevoznik Heins for her service and contributions to Serviam during her eight years as President. She has worked hard to position Serviam for success for years to come, and her impact throughout academics, fundraising and expanding the Serviam Community will be lasting. Second, to the search committee for their time, dedication, and diligence to this process and outcome. Third, and very importantly, to the faculty, staff, and entire Serviam Community for their patience and support during the search process as well as everything they are doing to educate and care for our students during this transition.

The future for Serviam has never been brighter, and I am excited by the energy and forward-thinking direction Jacqueline will bring to the next chapter of Serviam’s journey in defining excellence at a premier middle school for young women in the Wilmington area.

Please join me in welcoming Jacqueline to Serviam Girls Academy.

Sincerely,
Bob Kirkwood
