Meet Jeff Navarro,
Your 2020-21 Chairman of the Board
Jeff Navarro began his career with Edward Jones in 2009 as a financial advisor in Selma and then opened a new office in Smithfield in early 2014. He graduated in 2002 from N.C. State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and earned his CFP® designation in 2019. Mr. Navarro is an active member of the community, currently serving as Board Chair for the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce, as well as serving as a member of the Johnston Health Foundation Board. He is past president for Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County and has served with the Selma Lions Club.

Let's Honor Our Teachers!
Because of the importance of teachers in developing and educating children, the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce has adopted the Flame For Learning Award. In so doing, it is our goal to support and elevate the teaching profession in the public schools. This award recognizes outstanding creativity and innovation in the classroom and nominees are selected strictly on merit, without regard to school or residence. The recipient of the award is named the Johnston County Teacher of the Year and will represent the Johnston County Public School System in the North Carolina Teacher of the Year competition.

NCWorks NEXTGEN Youth Center
Hosts Real World Youth Summit
Several local agencies including Johnston County Industries, Department of Social Services, Johnston County Public Schools, Adolescent Parenting Program, Johnston County Youth Services, Alliance Behavioral Healthcare, Children’s Home Society of NC, Sinno Law Office, Division of Adult Corrections and Juvenile Justice, NCLINKS and ILR, along with several other agencies, are organizing this event for the purpose of teaching life skills to youths, ages 16-21 years old.

The Real World Youth Summit will attract many youths from the surrounding area. This program has been quite successful and proven to make a powerful impact with participating youths particularly in areas of budgeting, educational attainment, and career development.
Junior Women's League Presents $10,000 Donation to My Kid's Club
On Thursday, January 16, 2020, the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield presented a check to My Kid’s Club for $10,000. Funds were raised at JWL’s 4th Annual Touch-A-Truck event held in downtown Smithfield on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Early College Academy at JCC
Adds 25 Seats for STEM Pathway
Johnston Community College’s Associate in Engineering Program and Johnston County Early College Academy (JCECA) are expanding their partnership by launching a new STEM Pathway.  
 
The STEM Pathway, which focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, is a track specifically for high achieving students interested in pursuing the Associate in Engineering degree or the Associate in Science with an Engineering concentration. Like general JCECA students, STEM Pathway students will be dual enrolled in high school and community college courses.

Students and staff across Johnston County are preparing for the annual Special Olympics track and field competition scheduled for Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3, 2020. Each year, participants join together and compete for ribbons and medals to show their brave attempt at various events tailored to fit the strengths of students with physical and cognitive disabilities. Click HERE for more details!
