Trig Launches TT23 Transponder

Smaller, Lighter, GPS, ADS-B Out, Certified.

Trig Avionics, a Dynon Company, is delighted to announce the launch of the TT23 Compact Transponder the next generation of Trig’s compact line. The new transponder module design is smaller and up to 15% lighter than its predecessors, reducing weight and space needs while introducing new capabilities for pilots worldwide.

The TT23 is a fully certified Class 1, Mode S transponder with ADS-B Out, suitable for both VFR and IFR flight. For the first time, it is also available with optional built-in GPS.

The TT23 builds on the success of the popular TT21 and TT22 transponders, retaining the same user-friendly controls that pilots know and trust. The new models include a built-in altitude encoder and feature a bright, easy-to-read LCD screen for intuitive operation and dependable performance.

The TT23 and TT23G are available now through Approved Trig Dealers worldwide.

TT23 Model Lineup

TT23G: The TT23G features a built-in GPS receiver, making it the ideal choice for pilots seeking an integrated ADS-B out solution. The TT23G is perfect for experimental and light sport aircraft looking to meet the requirements for ADS-B out in the United States. In markets where ADS-B equipage is voluntary, the TT23G offers enhanced conspicuity and safety.

TT23: The TT23 is the same compact transponder without an internal GPS. For aircraft with a suitable GPS position source on board, the TT23 can be used as an ADS-B Out solution – including type-certificated aircraft in the US. An STC will be available to integrate with popular third- party GPS navigators, as well as the Trig TN70 Remote position source. For those that do not intend to equip with ADS-B out, the TT23 model is a high-quality, modern transponder with easy configuration options that make it suitable for any application.

US TT23 ADS-B Out FAQ

In the US, how can I use TT23 series for ADS-B Out compliance?

The TT23G with built-in GPS is an ADS-B Out compliant solution in experimental and LSA aircraft. It is not currently approved for use in type-certificated aircraft as an ADS-B Out solution.

The TT23 model when paired with a suitable GPS source such as the TN70 or other certified WAAS GPS position source / IFR navigator is a compliant ADS-B Out solution in experimental, LSA, and type-certificated aircraft. Note that the TT23 has a TSO, but does not currently have an FAA STC. This may limit installation in type certificated aircraft (see below).

Does the TT23 have an STC for type-certificated aircraft?

Trig is currently working with our long term STC partner to complete an STC with over 500 fixed wing types recognized by both the FAA and EASA.

In the US installing a compliant ADS-B Out solution (in a certified aircraft) requires your Trig transponder to utilize a certified WAAS GPS - this provides a compliant ADS-B position source. The FAA also requires that a certified ADS-B installation is completed in accordance with an FAA STC approval (Supplementary Type Certificate).

Our ADS-B STCs are available free of charge and cover hundreds of aircraft types. Trig STC approvals allow the use of popular WAAS GPS navigators too – making installation more practical and cost-effective. Our TA70 GPS antenna has also been added to our STC equipment list.
