How would you describe yourself and role as a single parent?
I would describe myself as a strong and determined parent.
What has been your greatest challenges and/or fears as a single mom?
My greatest challenge as a single mom would be trying not to break down in front of them when things get tough.
What did you see as the solution (Career Plan of Action) to your family’s current or pressing issues?
My solutions have been to not be afraid to ask for any resources that can help me and my girls, to believe in myself, and to trust in the process. My EESM case manager, Ms. Zaffon King, stayed on me, but it was a good thing! Her help did not feel like help. It was like I was talking to my older sister or aunt who is mentoring me in a positive direction.
What steps did you take to implement your plan of action?
I did my research. I began searching for jobs, programs, and resources via phone calls and on the internet to be able to complete my plan.
What was the outcome and how has it impacted your life?
I was able to get a job that provided the flexibility I needed for my girls in child care.
How would you describe “a day in the life of ” before and now?
Before EESM, life was a struggle with no help with my girls. I missed work due to not having a babysitter, which put me behind on bills and other supplies that were needed. Now that I have the girls in child care, things are working out just fine. I don't have that extra stress on who to watch them or if I'll be able to stay at work for my entire shift. Now my future is looking bright and fulfilling.
