KSBA regional spotlight

KSBA membership, comprised of Kentucky's 171 locally elected schools boards, is divided into 12 regions. This summer, KSBA is celebrating each region and helping our members (re)familiarize themselves with their regional peers. See the important information below regarding the KSBA region to which your district is assigned.

Meet your Region Chair

KSBA’s 27-member board of directors is exclusively made up of school board members from across Kentucky: three board officers, 12 directors-at-large and 12 regional chairs who are selected by member districts. Responsibilities of KSBA’s regional chairs include facilitating KSBA’s regional meetings held each fall, contributing as voting members of KSBA’s board and serving as voices for districts in their respective areas of the state.

KSBA’s First Region chair is Shawn Smee of Murray Independent.

Save the date for your regional meeting this fall

KSBA’s 2023 First Region meeting will take place on the evening of Sept. 25 in Murray. The meeting time, location and registration instructions will be provided to members through their regional chair. Invitations will be sent approximately five to six weeks ahead of the meeting.

About KSBA’s regional meetings: Each fall, KSBA’s 12 regional chairs host regional meetings for association members, district staff and friends of education. KSBA's regional meeting tour of the state allows members to gather in closer proximity to the local communities they serve. These short format programs offer an evening of networking and board training in an intimate setting. Dinner is provided to registered attendees (billed by the host district). Regional meetings are good for 1.25 hours of state-mandated school board training credit.

2023 Regional Meeting program description: Attendees will receive important updates from KSBA leadership, a rundown of how local issues are addressed at the state association level, 2024 legislative issues survey results and more. Back by popular demand, KSBA will facilitate interactive roundtable discussions, providing members with an opportunity to discuss local concerns and share ideas with fellow members and KSBA staff.
