PROGRAM SPOTLIGHTS
Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental Health Fellowship Initiative

For the first time in our agency's history, Jewish Family Services of Delaware has secured one-time federal funding to support mental health needs in our state. JFS will be formalizing a Fellowship Initiative to grow the number of licensed therapists in Delaware through an intensive clinical training and preparation program for Masters-prepared, license-eligible professionals.

JFS’ Mental Health Fellowship Initiative will build the profession to
  • meet Delaware’s increasing mental health needs
  • replenish a diminished mental health workforce
  • create opportunities for those wishing to work as fully licensed clinicians
  • increase the diversity of licensed professionals working in Delaware

“The past two years have required agility, creativity, and flexibility, and I am very proud of the work Jewish Family Services has done to meet the challenges of providing services throughout the pandemic. . . The funding for this Fellowship Program is an investment in Delaware’s long-term health and well-being. JFS is grateful for this opportunity to play such a vital role in ensuring a healthier future for Delaware.” — Regina Kerr Alonzo, Interim CEO

The Fellowship Program will officially launch in September, with an application process which will be outlined on our website under career opportunities.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a time to raise awareness about mental health, fight stigma, and provide support. During this month and throughout the year, we are inspired to advocate for mental health and access to care for all people.

At JFS, we prioritize and advocate for equal access to high-quality support and resources, regardless of a person's background or circumstances.

JFS' Specialized Mental Health Services Include:

  • The Sonia Schorr Sloan Maternal Mental Health Program supports people experiencing perinatal mood disorders, such as postpartum depression or pregnancy loss.

  • Our Youth Anxiety Program, which will continue over the summer as Camp Cope-A-Lot. The program helps youth ages 7-13 identify and reduce symptoms of anxiety, learn relaxation techniques, and more. The program also includes support and resources for parents.

  • Cancer Care Connection's Oncology Social Workers provide professional coaching, personalized information, and resource connections so people affected by cancer can navigate the full range of issues they face and obtain their best possible outcome.

  • Therapeutic counseling and psychiatry—for individuals of all ages, couples, and families—are main services provided by JFS' highly-trained and compassionate clinical team, including many areas of expertise.

DON'T MISS A THING:
Soaking Up the Springtime Sun

Our COMPASS team recently invited clients and caregivers to get some light exercise and build community while walking around the J-Loop track outside our Wilmington office and the JCC. It was great to see caregivers and family members across generations spending time together on such a beautiful day.

Supporting caregivers—including fostering community and connections—is an important and unique part of JFS' dementia care program.
