Club Assembly

October 01, 2025

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence to honor the people who were shot at The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Our one visitor was Therese Maggioncalda, Rotary District 6400 Governor-Elect.

October 23rd - Schoolcraft College is having a fundraiser for their foundation from 5 -9 PM. The event is called An American Harvest CulEx 2025, and the theme is Country/ Western.

The Adopt-A-Road cleanup had its last event for the year.  The weather was great and they had a fantastic meal at Sam's restaurant.

Report from the Giving Committee was given by: SPN Survivors, Seedling Braille Books for Children, and the Livonia Historical Society were all awarded grants. The Troy Interact Club's soccer-related request is paused for now.

Our club has been very generous, giving over $245,000 in grants since we started the Giving Committee.

The D6400 Annual Foundation Celebration Dinner is on November 6th at Crystal Garden in Southgate. The Club bought a table.  Spots are available for $20.00.  Contact Nancy Darga if you want to join the table. This is not an “ask” event, but a celebration.

October 11th is the Kid's Coalition Against Hunger meal packing event at St. Edith’s Catholic Church.  Set up is 7:30 AM, 9;00 to 11:00 AM is meal packing.

Rebuild Rotary Park, Reverend Dave brought in a check for Rebuild the Rotary park in the amount  of $100.00 from George from George Conny Island.

President Nancy would like a professional headshot of members for our Member Directory, especially if we are trying to attract prospective members.  Nancy would like to mail out the “New” directory to all former members before November 26th. That's the date we have chosen to invite former members to join us for breakfast at George's.Senate Coney Island in Northville. A motion was made and seconded to table the photo discussion until we have more information.

The meeting was adjourned after Greg Greene's jokes.

Club Meeting Featuring Patrick Brockway, Candidate for Livonia City Council

September 24, 2025

Meeting was led by President Nancy Darga. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Victoria Haltom’s Invocation, and Sharon Pommerville conducting Happy Bucks.

Today’s speaker was Patrick Brockway who is running for Livonia City Council, and communicated with the group over Zoom.

Patrick has held various Federal government positions, one being in the Veterans Affairs Department. Patrick’s credentials include a criminal justice degree from Madonna University. Patrick hopes that winning a council seat will allow him to make effective changes to the city’s fiscal picture and allow community members to have a strong voice and be heard with their concerns for the future of Livonia.

Patrick believes his greatest strength is researching for solutions to problems that need solving.

He stated that, as an employee of the government, his actions and words are always being scrutinized and are under a microscope—all the more reason to be truthful. Patrick related Rotary’s Four-Way-Test to his views as a representative of the people.

Tammy asked Patrick to speak about his position on the crumbling infrastructure in Livonia. Patrick replied that citizens must define what is needed versus what is wanted.

After Patrick's presentation, the meeting looked at upcoming events.

The newly formed Stevenson Interact Club already has 27 female students and has elected officers.

Kids Against Hunger has pledges of $10,000.

The Rotary Park Project has been on hold because the city has refused all previous construction bids and is starting over with what they are willing to spend. The Rotary Clubs have taken the stance that what ever is going to be built, needs to be the same as what was previously there, and built to last for a long time. Rotary is concerned that the City is again looking at prefab structures. It was brought up that perhaps Rotary AM should give another

$10,000 to the Rebuild Rotary Park Project. No vote was taken on that suggestion today.
