Club Meeting, Featuring: Emily Davis and Allison Pritula, Co-Presidents of Churchill HS Interact Club
June 18, 2025
|
Our meeting was opened by a meditative thought by Victoria Haltom about Juneteenth which is a celebration of the end of slavery. Barack Obama called it a "Celebration of Progress." Change is possible and there still is much to do.
Victoria invited everyone to a free DSO Concert at the Greater Grace Temple on Thursday evening.
President Dave passed around a thank you letter from Cheryl Bowker thanking our Club for all the volunteers that helped to make Passport to Safety a huge success.
Pat Zucal reported that our Rotary Carnival raised $95,000. The most ever made. (The Carnival did run for nearly three weeks).
|
Next week Erin Dobbins will lead the meeting while Dave Stechholz, Nancy Darga and Tammy Bonifield will be in Calgary, Alberta at the Rotary International Convention.
Reverend Dave announced that Francesco Arezzo of the Rotary Club of Ragusa, Italy, has accepted the nomination to serve as the Rotary International President for 2025-26.
The outgoing Board of Directors for LAMR stood and were applauded for their service to our club. Tammy Bonifield was thanked for a great time at her family's cottage on the lake last week, for our picnic and Installation of Officers. Those who attended but did not pick up a jar of Tammy's homemade honey were reminded to take a jar home.
Tammy reported that the members going to Calgary will be Zooming in to our meeting Wednesday morning. (5:30 AM their time)!!
| | The speakers today were Emily Davis, and Allison Pritula, co-presidents of Churchill H.S. Interact Club, along with Shana Talmon, who showed a PowerPoint presentation of their year. They hold a meeting every Monday and participate in a fun activity each month. They create calendars that are sent to members, listing important dates. They use Google Classroom, Facebook, and Instagram. They use technology much more than we do. Their year started with a pizza party. Members can join at any time during the year. Some of the activities are decorating a historic home for Halloween at Greenmead with costumed members at the site. They had The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. They made blankets, hosted a Valentine's party, and put on a wonderful Touch a Truck event. | Congratulations to the Churchill Interact Club for the work you've done. There was talk about having them present at next years' District Conference. Nancy Darga would like them to help us produce videos of Touch a Truck. |
Matt Collins, Livonia Lions Club invited us to visit their "Lions Park" which just opened last week. The park is off Joy Road, West of Newberg, at 9410 Stonehouse.
