Professional Development (PD) Requirements

What are the PD Requirements?

The Dyslexia Support Laws require all K-3 teachers, as well as teachers providing special education instruction to grades K-12, complete 18 hours of approved professional development around identifying characteristics of dyslexia and understanding pedagogy for instruction of students with dyslexia.

How Can NCOESC Help?

The NCOESC has various professional development opportunities to support your needs. These include, but are not limited to the sessions outlined below:

State Dyslexia PD, Grades K-3*

*The grade 4-12 option will be released at a later date

Ohio's Introduction to Dyslexia K-3 Course is available online in the Learning Management System (LMS). The course is free, self-paced, and includes a pre-assessment, 11 content modules, and a post assessment. 


The NCOESC will be offering differentiated regional support to those completing the LMS (as outlined below). Contact NCOESC for facilitated options, customizable for your district.

This option provides course access support, suggested pacing, and opportunities for Q/A from a regional facilitator. Participants will access/complete LMS course modules.
