HART HOUSE THEATRE UPDATE

Issue 7, 2018/2019 Season | July 24, 2018
These actors are "So very"

We open our season with a pitch-black musical comedy that explores teen angst and some of today’s societal challenges. Along with a cast and band of stellar emergent talent, these two power-house voices are sure to transform our near-century-old theatre into the murderous hallways of a 1980s American high school.

EMMA SANGALLI, Veronica Sawyer
Emma makes her debut on our stage in a role that made Winona Ryder a teen icon. Emma has studied voice with Yoriko Tanno Kimmons and makes annual trips to New York to refine her voice and train with many Broadway veterans. recently, Emma was seen on the Winter Garden Theatre stage in Grease The Musical. JUSTAN MYERS, Jason “J.D.” Dean
Playing the character that would prove to be a break-out role for Christian Slater, is Hart House Theatre newcomer Justan Myers. Originally from a small farm in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Justan is a graduate of St. Clair College Music Theatre Performance program and was recently seen on stage at the Lower Ossington Theatre as the Emcee in Cabaret and the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. Call for Assistant Director - Open to U of T Students only

We are currently looking to fill the position of Assistant Director for Hair, on stage Jan. 18-Feb. 2, 2019. The Director, Julie Tomaino, is interested in an Assistant who will not only shadow her but be a contributing member of the production team. Ideally, the candidate would be interested and experienced in the area of musical theatre direction. Interest and experience in choreography is an asset, but not necessary. It’s important for interested candidates to be familiar with the play.

To apply: These positions are reserved for current U of T students (and graduates in their first calendar year out of school) with experience working on theatrical productions and who are looking to expand their craft by working alongside industry professionals. The number of hours for each of these positions will be determined by their direct supervisor.

Interested applicants can forward a resume/CV and statement of interest outlining why you want to work on Hair to the Education and Production Coordinator, Gillian Lewis at gillian.lewis@utoronto.ca.
Construction all around!

We do not have a show on stage this summer, but the theatre is anything but quiet! This summer we are pleased to update our electrics (oooh- pretty lights!) and to expand our work towards maintaining a historic space that welcomes everyone, with the addition of an accessible restroom.

We look forward to sharing these changes with our audiences when our season opens in September.
