Finalists announced for Mega-Innovation Award
Three finalists (listed below in alphabetical order) have been announced for the Mega-Innovation Award.

Their stories will be told Monday, April 11, on the Mega-Conference stage ... and the winner announced.

Finalists are:

Border Belt Independent — The Border Belt Independent, a nonprofit, online newsroom that covers four rural, high-poverty counties in southeast North Carolina, has developed a model to bring in-depth reporting to underserved areas, both online and in print. The mission of the Border Belt Independent (borberbelt.org) is two-fold: to publish stories that make people's lives better, and to support journalism at existing small newspapers in the region. Les High is publisher.

NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune | The Advocate | The Acadiana Advocate — Sports betting is an extremely competitive multi-billion dollar business across multiple states. In the fall of 2021, in-person sports betting came to Louisiana and was legalized in 55 of 64 parishes across the state. This January, mobile sports betting went live across Louisiana. In anticipation of legalized sports betting, the staff knew that there would be a large appetite for relevant and engaging content across a myriad of platforms. The result of that effort was a content vertical called BET.NOLA.COM. Judi Terzotis is president and publisher. Kevin Hall, chief revenue officer, will join Terzotis in presenting the entry at Mega.
Stacker — Stacker's entry centers around its local storytelling offering. The goal of this innovation has been to increase access to data journalism for local news organizers, at scale. By combining traditional newsroom expertise, computer-assisted reporting tactics, a custom tech stack and local news partnerships, Stacker has created a platform for transforming data into stories and distributing them to 1,000+ news partners. Stacker content is freely available to most publishers thanks to Stacker's other lines of business, which include: content licensing, on-site advertising and a studio that uses the same editorial standards as any other story. Rob Powell, head of local, will present Stacker's entry.
