Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month is observed every year in May. It's a time when organizations and individuals work together to raise awareness about these types of cancer.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can be deadly if not detected early. It's caused by changes in cells called melanocytes, which produce a skin pigment called melanin. Skin cancer, on the other hand, is a broad term that encompasses several types of cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. It's primarily caused by overexposure to the sun or tanning beds.

During May, people are encouraged to learn about the risks of skin cancer and how to reduce their risk. This includes wearing sunscreen, avoiding the sun during peak hours, and regularly checking your skin for any changes. It's also a time to support those who are battling these diseases and remember those who have lost their lives to them.
