Greetings friends of the Dufferin Board of Trade. Your newly elected board is excited to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Our first job will be to get going on organizing a golf tournament for late August. I hope that you can all make it out to give us a chance to celebrate in person this great place that we have to do business.

Congratulations to our local MPP, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones and the Ford government on their return to Queens Park. I admit to surprise at the size of the mandate. One has to go all the way back to the Leslie Frost government to find an Ontario government who increased their margin of victory by that much between their first and second terms.  I look forward to working with the new/old government to address issues on your behalf. I may have to send smoke signals or use the phone given the unreliable high speed many of us deal with on a daily basis. Maybe that will be our first topic of discussion.

Thanks to our partners: The Dufferin Federation of Agriculture, The CFUW – Headwaters, the Brampton Real Estate Board, and Rogers TV for hosting the local provincial all candidates meeting with us. I was impressed with how prepared and passionate the candidates were in supporting the platform of their party of choice. Their deportment was excellent too which didn’t make for the most exciting TV but did make it easy on the moderator.

I look forward to seeing you around the county as we head into festival season and some of the great upcoming events like Blues and Jazz and Ribfest!

Doug Harkness,
Chair - Dufferin Board of Trade
