Dear Members:
We have two matters of timely importance to share with you:

1)  The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking the public's help to identify regulations that should be repealed, modified or replaced and wants your input.  Today, join ABA's 2PM conference call (call-in information below) OR go online to share your ideas directly with the DOT.

Why is it important to get involved? Repeatedly, the motorcoach industry has advocated for less regulation. The DOT's recent notice offers the industry this precise opportunity, and it requires no legislative action.

There are some regulations that are required by statue; however, this does not prevent the DOT from taking action to modify the regulations to relieve burdens. Also, there are other regulations not required by statute, where the DOT has complete discretion, even up to the point of eliminating the requirement.

The DOT notice seeking your comments can be found here: https://www.federalregister.gov/d/2017-21101, and comment filing deadline is 11/1.

Conference call information:  the ABA will be holding an open conference call TODAY at 2:00 p.m. ET to hear everyone's ideas.  To access the call please dial: (800) 220-9875; Passcode: 37191286 #.

2)  Traffic advisories have been issued for Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport during this weekend's 59th annual Atlantic City Marathon.
5K and 10K races will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, with the 26.2-mile marathon Sunday, Oct. 22. It is the third-oldest marathon in the United States.   The course includes the Atlantic City Boardwalk and Brigantine Connector Tunnel, employee access roads at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Harrah's Resort and Golden Nugget in Atlantic City; the Ventnor Boardwalk; Atlantic, Amherst, Monroe, Huntington, Marshall and Jerome avenues in Margate; and Atlantic Avenue in Longport.   To ensure the safety of competitors, staff, volunteers and the general public, the Ventnor Board of Commissioners will eliminate parking on both sides of the South Washington Avenue beach block and the ocean side of Atlantic Avenue from Washington to Fredericksburg avenues. The commission is also prohibiting the riding of bicycles on the Boardwalk during the event. Walkers are advised to use caution when walking or running on the Boardwalk.

In Margate, parking will be restricted on the ocean side of Atlantic Avenue, and there will be no parking on both sides of Amherst Avenue from Huntington to Monroe. Amherst will be closed to vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are no-parking restrictions for Monroe, Huntington, Marshall and Jerome avenues, but police will be stationed at key locations to direct traffic, Margate Traffic Officer Larry Dickerson said.   Longport is also restricting parking on the ocean side of the entire length of Atlantic Avenue from 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. Runners will go to the end of Atlantic Avenue and use the turn-around at 11th Avenue. Borough officials said they worked with the contractor building the Longport Point revetment project to clear the area for runners.   Motorists can expect delays at all locations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.  For more information, see acraceseries.com.
Thank you for your time and we will continue to monitor and keep you updated on these important issues.
Sincerely,

Pattie
