CanSIA Continues to Push for Solar Opportunities in Ontario
As part of Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan and the Green ON Fund (GOF), the Government of Ontario is expected to launch an incentive program for net-metered, load displacement, and off-grid solar electricity generation by the end of 2017. The incentive program may take the form of a capital rebate up to a defined proportion of a system's total eligible cost or on a dollar per watt basis. Solar electricity is expected to be eligible in the first phase of the program with solar heating technologies expected to be eligible in future phases.

CanSIA launched the Green ON Fund Forum last month, working with our members and key stakeholders to help expedite the launch of an Ontario solar program. Leading up to the launch of this program, CanSIA expects to have an open dialogue with the IESO to provide recommendations and feedback on the program design. This forum also offers a channel through which our members can be notified of the latest developments and updates related to the GOF programs. With the practical information, insights and recommendations of our members, a well-structured solar incentive program with a sound implementation plan will help ensure program success, a vibrant Ontario solar market, and ensure Ontario meet its climate change goals.

Members of CanSIA can access the recording of last week's GreenON Fund Forum webinar here. We look forward to continuing to share information with our members as the program comes together.

On a related note, the Ontario Ministry of Energy launched the 2017 Long-Term Energy Plan yesterday. Stay tuned to CanSIA to learn more about the Plan and the role solar energy will play in Ontario's energy future.

CanSIA GreenON Fund (GOF) Solar Program Draft Recommendations PresentationGOF
The Ontario Government and the IESO are expected to soon launch an incentive program for solar electricity generation. The IESO is responsible for the design and implementation of the Green Ontario Fund Solar Rebate Program.

Due to the urgency and importance of this program to the Ontario solar industry, CanSIA is proactively providing the IESO with a turnkey solar rebate program design solution that they have agreed to seriously consider. This is a tremendous opportunity for the solar industry to shape the upcoming program and to ensure the sustainable growth of the Ontario solar market.

Last week CanSIA provided  an update on the status of the Rebate Program and presented a draft program design to the membership for feedback and discussion. Members can view the webinar here.

While the time for feedback has concluded, CanSIA members can still stay up-to-date on all program developments by joining the CanSIA Green ON Fund Forum.

Building Public Support for Solar Kick-off MeetingBPSS
CanSIA's new strategic project for the 2017/2018 membership year, Building Public Support for Solar (BPSS), takes a pro-active approach to educate the public while shifting the perception of solar from a future technology to a present day solution.

This past month, CanSIA kicked-off the Building Public Support for Solar campaign with a webinar hosted by CanSIA CEO & President, John Gorman and Communications Coordinator, Erin Seegmiller. In this webinar, CanSIA framed the ongoing communication challenges the solar industry faces at a national, Ontario and Alberta level.

Advocacy Opportunities
NRC Developing a Standard for PV Roof AssemblyNRC
Under the Federal Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate, National building and energy codes are expected to evolve whereby buildings will need to be net zero or net zero ready. As the organization responsible for the development of these codes, the National Research Council (NRC) has evaluated existing standards for rooftop PV and has identified that a wind resistance test methodology and standard need to be developed, which will also quantify the impact of a PV system on the durability of roofing assemblies.

As a key stakeholder, CanSIA has been invited by NRC to participate in a working group to develop this methodology and standard along with several roofing associations and companies. Funding support for the initiative has also been requested by NRC in exchange for participation. CanSIA is thus seeking members who are willing to contribute funding support and expertise to the initiative. This opportunity should be of particular interest and benefit to commercial racking companies and installation companies who wish to contribute expertise and weigh in on changes that will impact their business.

If interested in joining and funding this initiative, please contact Wes Johnston by email or by phone at 343-700-3590 as soon as possible.
