The Outlook for Solar in Alberta
Credit: Green Power Labs
Alberta's change in Government last fall initiated a series of events that is leading to a break-through for the solar energy industry in the province. CanSIA has been actively engaged with policy-makers and regulators in the province as they turn their attention to a more ambitious approach to climate change and renewable energy.

Last week, Alberta's Minister of Environment & Parks made the first (of soon to be several) announcements on the scale, pace and form of this approach:  a firm commitment to 30% of electricity used from renewable resources by 2030 (with support for 5,000 MW).

This declaration, combined with publicly supported assertions by the minister that Alberta needs to diversify its economy, has renewed the industry's confidence that Alberta will soon introduce policies and programs that will draw investment in large-scale solar projects and support residential, commercial and community solar to support the province's electricity needs while minimizing energy infrastructure overhauls and diversifying Alberta's electricity mix.

While advocating to support solar market growth in Alberta, CanSIA will continue to keep our members informed and engaged in this burgeoning opportunity. Here are some upcoming member benefits you will not want to miss:

FNPA Energy Forum: First Nation Renewable Energy FNPA
FNPA is pleased to be hosting the 2nd Annual FNPA Energy Forum: First Nation Renewable Energy in Saskatchewan, on Wednesday, November 16th in Saskatoon, Sask.

Last year's "sold-out" event focused on how First Nations communities can incorporate renewable energy into their economic development plans. This year's event will focus on power development opportunities in Saskatchewan, successful First Nation partnerships, and funding options for power projects. With Premier Brad Wall's recent announcement to have "50% renewables by 2030", Saskatchewan is positioned as one of the leading markets in North America for power development so we anticipate another full house at this year's forum.
