Hugh Wood (HWI) has partnered with CanSIA to deliver risk and insurance services to the membership covering personal and commercial needs. HWI is a privately held independent organization; a global insurance and risk management services firm. In addition to placement capabilities in hundreds of markets worldwide, they have direct access to Lloyd’s of London. Their renewable energy practice headed out of their Toronto office is led by Jen Aitchison, where they deliver leading expertise and over 20 years’ experience managing renewable risks. They employ skilled professionals with expertise in the domestic and global marketplace specific to the renewable space as a specialized market niche.
Jen has been acknowledged for fundamentally changing the insurance landscape for renewable energy and combining risk management with market-based solutions for win-win results. With over 18 years in the insurance industry with the last 11 years focused on renewable energy, she provides strategic insight to her clients that allow for best in class risk assessment, management and insurance placements at a fair cost often commenting on contracts, warranties and lending agreements for the best results for her clients. Jen is a founding member of Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE), won the 2015 Canadian Solar Industry Association’s President’s Award for chairing the PV Fire Safety committee including release of the Fire Safety Manual. She currently serves on the Board of Energy Storage Canada, and TREC SolarShare’s governance committee and was previous President and board chair of Touchstone Youth Shelter. She was also featured by Women’s Post as Woman of the Week as one of the leading environmentalists supporting risk management and mentoring women entering the field.

BioTalent Canada™ is the HR partner of and a catalyst for growth in Canada’s bio-economy. Our engagement with employers, associations, post-secondary institutions, immigrant serving agencies and service providers has built a dynamic network that is strengthening skills, connecting job-ready talent to industry and creating opportunities.
The Green Jobs Science and Technology Internship Program is funded through NRCan and funds the wage (50% up to a maximum of $15,000) of a youth entering into a STEM role that impacts the improvement/preservation of a natural resource.
The internship must be full-time and for a minimum of 6 months. Participant eligibility is as follows:
  • Under the age of (not yet turned) 31
  • Entering into a STEM role
  • Position contributes to the improvement or preservation of a natural resource (Sustainable forestry management, soil remediation, bio-energy, solar and wind)
  • Not currently in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits  
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee status
  • Starting work with you on or before September 30, 2019

The intention of the Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) is to encourage and assist employers in hiring co-op students, while providing Canadian post-secondary students with valuable paid work experience.    
The co-op must be full-time and for a minimum of 16 weeks. Participant (student) eligibility is as follows:   
  • Enrolled full-time in a STEM or Business program
  • Working for a bio-economy employer OR performing a bio-economy task
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee status
They are able to fund:
  • 50% of a participants wage (up to a maximum of $5,000) for regular students
  • 70% of a participants wage (up to a maximum of $7,000) for those within an under-represented group (female, Indigenous, persons with disabilities, newcomers to Canada within the past 5 years) or 1st year undergrad students.
