As we reflect on 2024, we are incredibly proud that the Autism Support Network (ASN) was honored as the Non-Profit Organization of the Year at the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce’s 25th Annual Business Excellence Awards in June. This recognition is a testament to the impact we’ve made together and the vital work that remains ahead.

Building a Strong, Educated Community

Our network of staff and volunteer parents spend countless hours educating and supporting each other. An autism diagnosis often comes with fear, uncertainty, and an onslaught of information. We believe in providing evidence-based information and empowering parents to make the best choices for their children.

Families in Crisis

Autism can be isolating. Families that are in the trenches daily with their high-needs children are not out in public and often struggling on their own. The ASN has helped hundreds of families who are at crisis point connect with resources and professionals that can help them find a way to create a better future for their families.

Expanding to Underserved Communities

Immigrant and refugee families often face additional barriers to diagnosis and treatment. ASN is not only providing support but also reducing stigma and raising awareness.

Professional Education

Capacity of qualified professionals is an issue. This year the ASN launched Behaviour Intervention Training, a two-day course that is held virtually every three months. We also held our first conference for education professionals and are planning our second. The biggest issue we hear about is schools and lack of support and we are building capacity and empowering teachers and EAs through our conferences.

Leadership Transition

In November, the Autism Support Network has announced a leadership transition as founder Nancy Walton retires after 23 years of advocacy. We warmly welcome Jennifer Newby as our new Executive Director. Jennifer, a passionate advocate and co-author of the Parent and Professionals Plan to transform services for BC’s children and youth with disabilities, brings extensive experience and dedication to supporting families. Join us in thanking Nancy for her incredible legacy and welcoming Jennifer to ASN!
