About the Legion

The Canadian Legion officially began in 1926, but the White Rock Legion’s roots go back to 1916, starting as part of the Great War Veterans Association. Our first building was located at the base of White Rock’s iconic Pier. By 1925, we became “The Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League,” and in 1960, Queen Elizabeth II granted us the 'Royal' title.

Our original hall, though now a memory, was a hub of community support. In the 1930s, we organized dances and even bought a gramophone to boost morale. Despite a storm and a fire in 1935, members quickly rallied to help rebuild.

After relocating in 1949 and again in 1971 to our current South Surrey location, we remain dedicated to supporting Veterans, the Canadian Armed Forces, First Responders, their families, and our community.

You don’t need to be a member to enjoy our space—feel free to join us for drinks, darts, pool, or just fun socializing. We were honoured as “Community Builder Business of the Year” by the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce in June 2024, and we continue to support this amazing community!

There are many activities to get involved in; meat draws, special events, the annual Poppy campaign, decorating, setup/cleanup...we welcome whatever talents and ideas you could bring to our Legion family!
