4. Ontario school bus drivers ask for COVID-19 safety protocols
Global News CA | August 25, 2020 | by Salmaan Farooqui

TORONTO – School bus drivers in Ontario say they need guidance from the province and school boards on COVID-19 safety protocols including social distancing, use of face masks and sanitizing routines.

With just a few weeks until the start of the new school year, the drivers, many of whom are retirees, say they still have many questions about what they’re supposed to do when a child on the bus is sick.

“We know how important it is to get kids to school, but we don’t want to be that weak link, don’t want to be responsible for an outbreak or something in our broader based community,” said Debbie Montgomery, president of Unifor Local 4268, which represents the bus drivers.
5. What you need to know about getting tested before you travel
The Washington Post | August 25, 2020 | by Natalie B. Compton

After months of staying at home in New York City during the pandemic, travel writer Sarah Khan called her general practitioner for advice on getting tested for the coronavirus before a potential train trip to see her aging parents.

For more than a week before taking off, Khan followed a strict self-quarantine at home, only leaving to take the coronavirus test at an urgent care clinic. The day after getting her negative test result, she left for Massachusetts, confident she wouldn’t be spreading the coronavirus onboard — but conscious the risk for contracting it was still present.

“It’s obviously not foolproof,” Khan says. “You shouldn’t feel infallible from [a negative test]. But I do think that it’s an important step in our pre-planning process now. Just like we have our packing list like, ‘Do I have my passport and everything?’ I feel like now would be like, ‘Did I take my covid test?’ ”

6 . Mercedes-Benz to discontinue Freightliner Sprinter van
Transport Topics | August 25, 2020

Mercedes-Benz AG announced the Freightliner Sprinter van will be discontinued and all retail sales completed by Dec. 31.

The plant in Charleston, S.C., where the Freightliner model is assembled will remain open to produce Mercedes-Benz vans. Freightliner is a brand of Daimler Trucks North America.

Mercedes-Benz “has decided to discontinue distribution of the Freightliner Sprinter product in the U.S. market at the conclusion of the 2021 model year,” the company said in a statement. “This decision was made after much careful consideration of a number of factors. Specifically, the high homologation [certification and approval] costs for a single-market, low-volume product as the U.S.-only Freightliner Sprinter were central to this decision.”

7. New York removes five states from quarantine order
Newsday | August 25, 2020 | by Bart Jones and John Valenti
New York has removed five states from the mandatory 14-day self-quarantine orders, and the state marked its 18th straight day of coronavirus positive testing levels below 1%, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Tuesday.

The states removed from the list are Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Maryland and Montana. The U.S. territory of Guam was added to the list.

The changes leave 31 states or territories on the list. The action came as the number of new cases of COVID-19 have dropped in some areas as officials adopt mandatory mask-wearing measures and reverse some moves such as opening bars and indoor dining.

8. Sometimes it pays to call customers to listen instead of talk
Forbes | August 25, 2020 | Henry DeVries
Michelle Connell, CFA and adjunct professor of Finance at University of Texas in Dallas, has some straightforward advice.

“Get your clients on the phone... and shut up!”
In other words, listen. Call and then really listen to your clients.

Connell works with both private investors, and non-profit organizations. In an era of economic instability, she has dealt with more than her fair share of frightened, anxious and angry clients.

“Even the most rational and reasonable client can become emotional and sometimes even irrational when faced with investment losses,” Connell said. “As advisors, it would be easy to avoid conversations with these individuals.”
