Motorcoach industry associations join forces
for unified Bus & Motorcoach Industry Fly In
|
|
The United Motorcoach Association and the American Bus Association are sponsoring our first-ever joint
Bus & Motorcoach Industry Fly In
lobbying event April 10-11 in the nation’s capital. That's right, we will be working together advocating for our industry. Full information is available at
www.uma.org/capitol-hill
.
How did this happen? A push by newly elected UMA Board Chair Gladys Gillis for a joint event has given members of both groups the opportunity to work together with the hope of making greater strides toward shared priorities. “I’d like to see the UMA and ABA legislative agendas come together and have the associations speak with one unified voice,” Gillis, owner and CEO of Starline Luxury Coaches, said in an interview with
Bus & Motorcoach News
shortly after taking office.

Motorcoaches to the rescue, again and again
|
|
When all else fails, motorcoaches to the rescue! Late last month cable news watchers around the world saw UMA member
Quick's Bus Company of Staunton, VA dispatch ten motorcoaches to transport Republican members of the House of Representatives to their destination following a fatal Amtrak crash in Crozet, VA. True to their name, Quick's had buses lined up on the scene, warmed up and waiting to meet the House Republicans and their families even before their train returned to the Charlottesville, VA train station. From there, Quick's safely transported the group to their retreat in Sulphur Springs, WV.
And in neighboring Maryland, UMA member
Dillon's Bus Service of Hanover, MD was called on to help Baltimore area commuters get to their destinations during a month-long shutdown of the Metro SubwayLink system. In the past commuters were put onto yellow school buses during extended shutdowns, so local area transit planners are confident passengers will appreciate the opportunity travel in the comfort of modern motorcoaches on their daily commute this time.

Tech start-up Embark takes
autonomous truck coast-to-coast
|
|
A start-up company called Embark has put an autonomous vehicle through a rigorous challenge, hauling a truckload of refrigerators coast-to-coast. Embark uses machine learning and data from onboard sensors to map the vehicle's path and avoid obstacles. The company does not manufacture trucks but instead produces a system that works with Peterbilt Trucks.
