UMA party bus survey shows ordinance is bad for business
Operators overwhelmingly say party bus law is a bust for Chicago travel

The City of Chicago’s so-called Party Bus Ordinance is having a significant effect on tour planning by motorcoach operators, according to an online survey by the United Motorcoach Association. Nearly eighty percent of respondents agreed that the ordinance will negatively affect their decision to stop in Chicago either as a destination or an interim stop on a tour.

Yet, most companies responding (70 percent) said they would advise any group desiring to travel to Chicago about the ordinance and let them make the decision, knowing there would be extra costs involved. The online survey was conducted July 30 – August 14, 2018 and received 67 responses from the U.S. and Canada.

Study shows benefit to combining transit and ridesharing
Bus & Motorcoach News | August 9, 2018

CHICAGO — Uber and Lyft aren’t enemies but potential allies for Chicago’s public transit system.

That’s the finding of researchers at DePaul University in Chicago.

The nation’s third-largest city should follow the lead of Los Angeles and Dallas to make it easier for their passengers to combine transit with ridesharing services, concludes the study by the  Chaddick Institute of Metropolitan Development.

Complete Coach works to rehab New Flyer buses
 Bus & Motorcoach News | August 8, 2018

RIVERSIDE, Calif.— Complete Coach Works  (CCW), the largest U.S.-based bus remanufacturing company, announced it has been awarded a contract by Montebello Bus Lines (MBL) for the electrification and rehabilitation of three New Flyer buses. The economy’s shift toward sustainability has influenced MBL’s decision to remove its gas hybrid system and convert to Zero Emission Propulsion System (ZEPS) buses. The process of remanufacturing improves the service life of the bus and avoids material waste, resulting in operational savings that benefit the environment.

Six positive expressions that might be offensive
Fast Company | by Judith Humphrey | August 14, 2018

This quick, three-minute read explains how we can think we're complimenting an employee or co-worker by using terms we consider positive but are perceived otherwise by the person on the receiving end. Some expressions sound innocuous, even complimentary. But in the wrong context, they’re insulting–and convey messages that are just the opposite of what we intend. That gap between intent and reception can stop us from getting our real point across.

The following six common words and phrases may seem positive but come loaded with a lot of baggage.

UMA Motorcoach Travel PAC is working for you

The UMA Motorcoach Travel PAC (UMA PAC) is a political action committee (PAC) that uses member contributions to help elect individuals to Congress who support the goals of the United Motorcoach Association.
The UMA PAC is a valuable resource that gives UMA's representatives the opportunity to see key Washington lawmakers at their campaign events and discuss UMA positions on prominent issues. In recent years, UMA has made tremendous progress in reaching out to members of Congress and their staffs, educating them on the needs and challenges of professional bus and motorcoach companies like yours and securing their support.

Federal law prohibits a political action committee from accepting funding from a trade association. The PAC must raise its funds separately and only from members. One hundred percent of every contribution goes directly to candidates' campaigns to promote the visibility of your issues in Washington.
Contributions to the PAC are completely voluntary. Members are free to contribute any amount (within FEC limits) or no amount without reprisal.
