Agenda set for UMA Capitol Hill Day April 10-11
Join industry colleagues for a day of advocacy

The schedule for the UMA 2018 Capitol Hill Day is set, so operators and industry allies are invited to sign up today and book their hotel rooms for this important event. Each participant will be professionally briefed on the issues and will have a customized schedule arranged with their legislators. You CAN make a difference. The UMA 2018 Capitol Hill Day is free to attend and operators are only responsible for their hotel room and transportation to and from DC. Please book your rooms by March 20 using the link on the UMA website .

We have a new FMCSA Administrator
February 15, 2018 | by Bus & Motorcoach News

The Senate has confirmed Raymond Martinez as the Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. He was nominated by President Donald Trump in September and just last week cleared the last hurdle in the process.

UMA President and CEO Stacy Tetschner last week congratulated the new administrator on his confirmation and committed the organization to working with him, saying “we stand ready to work with Administrator Martinez and his team to further reduce passenger carrier crashes and improve what is already an outstanding safety record for the industry.”

VA Tech Transportation Institute wants UMA members' input for employment screening survey
The United Motorcoach Association is asking its members to complete an important online survey. The survey, conducted by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute , pertains to employment screening practices in commercial motor vehicle operations.
“We know everyone is busy this time of year; however, this is a unique opportunity to share your opinion and expertise regarding your use (or nonuse) of specific employment screening practices, as well as their effectiveness,” said Ken Presley, UMA vice president of legislative & regulatory affairs & industry relations/COO. “The results of the survey will most likely shape policy for years to come as agencies develop practical and cost-effective pre-employment screening practices and guidelines to reduce the risk of crashes.”
The link to the anonymous survey is  https://virginiatech.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a5YRrNOhe6vmGuF . The survey is anonymous and takes about 10-20 minutes to complete. Questions can be directed to Dr. Jeff Hickman (540-231-1542;  jhickman@vtti.vt.edu ).
Management tips from Harvard Business Review
Busy managers don't always have time for higher education while working busy jobs, but that doesn't mean you cannot take advantage of expert management advice! Harvard Business Review's "Management Tip of the Day" provides short snippets that can motivate managers to focus better on goals, build a stronger team, and empower employees. Today's tip is "Encourage Your Team to Bring You Problems - Not Just Complaints." Check it out along with posts from prior days. The UMA directory is coming soon. Are you up to date?
Have you heard from UMA regarding the need to update your company's records in our database? You should have received a fax with your existing data and a request to have an updated copy returned to UMA. We need to know if your contact info has changed, and whether there are any updates to your fleet or company personnel for starters. The directory is a great tool for member to member contact, so having the latest information is key!

The primary contact for any member organization can also update a company record online using the designated email and password. Please note, organizations that use one email account for more than one individual might have trouble logging in.

For more information contact Jocelyn Delacruz at jdelacruz@uma.org.
