DC Trails acquires BestBus

Thanks to its acquisition by DC Trails of Washington D.C., the online-reservation company BestBus will for the first time offer customers the chance to board motorcoaches owned and operated by the same company.

DC Trails invited industry friends to a celebration of the acquisition last week at Washington, DC's Union Station bus depot. UMA CEO Stacy Tetschner and members of the UMA staff were on hand to congratulate owner Bill Torres and his team at DC Trails.

Visitors from Canada hit record

While the number of international visitors to the U.S. has dropped off during the past year, Canadians are heading to destinations south of the border in record numbers, according to Brand USA.

“It’s our number one international market, with some 20 million visitors,” Brand USA President and CEO Chris Thompson said during the U.S. Travel Association’s recent IPW tourism trade show in Denver. “The good news is that in 2017 … the Canadian numbers are actually up.”

FirstGroup's CEO resigns; firm could sell Greyhound

June 29, 2018 | by Bus & Motorcoach News |

ABERDEEN, Scotland – The CEO of FirstGroup, the corporate parent of Greyhound Lines, First Student and First Transit, resigned after the company suffered a fiscal-year loss of $437 million. The company also said it was exploring options for financially slumping Greyhound, including the possible sale of the U.S. bus company.

Tim O’Toole, who was appointed chief executive of the Aberdeen-based rail and coach operator in 2010, said, “The time is right for me to step aside. Today’s results clear the way for the new approach sought by our chairman and the board.”
BOTL Director Annie Sovcik provided training materials to interested companies.
New England Bus Association Learns about human trafficking and Busing on the Lookout
Speaking at the New England Bus Association annual meeting in Westbrook, Connecticut in late June, Busing On The Lookout (BOTL) director Annie Sovcik educated the audience on human trafficking, its intersections with the bus industry and a training program to help combat this crime.

"I hear this, and it makes me angry" said Mitch Guralnick, vice president of Pre-Owned Coach, and plenary session speaker at the conference. "Most of us in this room have kids. I think about my kids and I want this to end. We can all play a role in ending this horrible crime."

RECALL NOTICE
Continental Recalls Conti Coach HA3 Tires
Continental Tire the Americas LLC has announced they are recalling 3,917 commercial tires in the U.S. The Conti Coach HA3 tires in size 315/80R22.5 157/154 L were produced between Aug. 27, 2017, and April 28, 2018. The tires were sold as both original equipment and replacement products.

Continental advises the tires may experience air penetration through the inner liner, which could result in a bulge or blister in the sidewall. With continued use, the tires could experience slow or sudden air loss, which could result in loss of control of the vehicle. These tires may have cords visible through the inner liner.

The tires can be identified with these U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) codes: A372KWUU 3517 through A372KWUU 1618.

Owners also may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to  www.safercar.gov .
