President's Message

A Year-round Spirit of Gratitude

The turn of the year provides us with opportunities to create New Year's resolutions and set new goals. It also gives us an excellent opportunity to reflect on the previous year, consider the highlights, moments of challenge, personal growth, and celebrate successes.

Following the recent holidays, we can take a quiet moment now to think about those special times with loved ones and friends, relish the spirit of gratitude that surrounded us, and appreciate the grace and giving observed through New Year's Day. We can also look ahead and continue the spirit of kindness that the holidays bring out in all of us.

At American Eagle Financial Credit Union, we cherish those feelings of gratitude and perspective. We are deeply thankful for the loyalty of our valued Credit Union members. We are grateful for the dedication and hard work of our team members. We are fulfilled by the opportunities to contribute and enrich others throughout our surrounding communities. Our team members donate their time—hundreds of hours—volunteering and giving back to many nonprofit organizations. They provide donations to various causes, just like the Credit Union. Through our support of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, we enrich many worthy organizations and initiatives throughout the communities that represent our field of membership.

American Eagle also provides significant financial support through "Cash Back to the Community." Each quarter, our community selects the top three nonprofit groups that will receive checks of approximately $9,000. Recipients during the past year included Southington West Little League, Paperhouse Productions, Boomer's Animal Rescue, Connecticut Humane Society, Literacy Volunteers of Connecticut, Enfield Loaves and Fishes, No Animal Left Unfed, Everybunny Counts Rabbit Rescue, Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation, Hartford Gay Men's Chorus, East Haven Food Pantry, and Protectors of Animals.

Looking forward to 2024, we have good reason for optimism. While the effects of inflation are still present, there is evidence that it is beginning to stabilize. Improvements in the market, coupled with our ability to influence positive outcomes for our members, is a winning formula. We stand ready to provide the right products and services to meet the needs of our community and fulfill our mission to create a world where financial freedom is a reality. We take great pride in helping our members achieve their financial objectives by providing financial education and the resources our members need.

Specifically, we offer programs and educational opportunities to help our members with essential topics—budgeting, financial planning, borrowing, saving, and investment strategies. Our experienced team members are available to answer member questions and provide information to continue to support our members through the final stages of this inflationary cycle.

In closing, we hope you were fulfilled in 2023 and excited for 2024 with all the opportunities it brings. We look forward to connecting with you in our branches, call center, and local community. Our team at American Eagle wishes you a meaningful start to a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

Warm regards,

Howard Brady

About Our Cash Back to the Community Program

Every time you use your debit or credit card, American Eagle Financial Credit Union gives to a worthy nonprofit organization in your community - one that you and other members choose! It's Cash Back to the Community - cash back that makes a big difference. That means the more you use your AEFCU credit and debit cards, the more we give back! Not a Checking account member? This is a good enough reason you should be. See how our Personal Checking Accounts compare.

How Are the Winners Chosen and Awarded?

Great question! The top three organizations, based on total votes from AEFCU members and the general public, will receive a donation from AEFCU. The amount is determined at the end of the quarter based on AEFCU members' debit and credit card usage. A total of 12 different organizations will receive funds for the year (three per quarter.) Learn more about AEFCU's community involvement.

Throughout 2024, AEFCU is donating one percent of its credit and debit card interchange income to three nonprofit and/or 501(c)(3) organizations each quarter through the Cash Back to the Community program. Funding for the program is generated each time members use an American Eagle credit or debit card. At the end of each quarter, one percent of the total interchange income–the fee paid for credit and debit card transactions–is distributed to the top three nonprofits receiving votes. Since the program's inception in 2020, the Credit Union has donated $408,542.
