CLUB SPOTLIGHT

Allied Youth Tip Off NBA Math Hoops Season

Did you know that every summer, youth lose about two and a half months of math skills? To help prevent this, our members take part in fun, engaging learning activities like Power Hour and Summer Brain Gain. This week, youth at our Allied Club kicked off their NBA Math Hoops season, a national program in partnership with the NBA that uses basketball to build math skills through a board game, curriculum, and community-based activities. Our youth were excited to join the draft lottery, pick their teams, and challenge their peers while sharpening their math skills and working together.

Builders in Action at Fleming Club

Fleming Club members put their creativity and critical thinking to work during Building & Engineering Day. The space buzzed with energy as youth rotated through hands-on stations featuring LEGOs, marshmallows and toothpicks, magnet tiles, and a crowd-favorite cup stacking challenge. From imaginative designs to friendly competition, it was a perfect mix of learning and fun. We can’t wait to see what our young builders create next.

Preschool Garden Club Blooms

This June, our Preschool classroom kicked off another season of Garden Club! Every Tuesday, Ms. Kim joins our young gardeners to share her love of plants and teach them how to help their garden grow. From watering to planting and everything in between, our little helpers are learning how to care for their plants while having fun outdoors.

Inside the Lab: A Day with Millipore Sigma

Pre-Interns had a great time exploring Millipore Sigma’s labs and learning about the pharmaceutical industry and cancer-fighting drugs. From touring state-of-the-art facilities to putting on lab coats and stepping into the role of scientists, our youth experienced what it’s like to work in a lab setting. They also heard from a panel of professionals who shared their inspiring college and career journeys. Millipore Sigma provided lunch and led an engaging, behind-the-scenes tour that made the day both fun and educational. Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County is deeply grateful for this meaningful partnership and the unforgettable experience it created for our youth.

BLAZE Camp Sparks Creativity in Week One

BLAZE Girls Camp kicked off with a week of creativity and collaboration, thanks to the support of Pat Hatlen, Faith Barrett, and Lisa Kratz from the Madison Area Builders Association (MABA). Campers took an inspiring field trip to explore interior design, guided by Jessika Mische and Crystal Welsch from Coyle Carpet Floor & Home, and Hannah Antos, Rob Carey, and Talen Bliss from Precision Design Build, Inc. They returned ready to start plans for designing the inside of the tiny house built during last year’s camp.
