Coach Dylan Foster

By: Haroun Savage (NCMFC Staff)

For University of South Florida Offensive Line Analyst Dylan Foster, football has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. Introduced to the game at just five years old through Glenarden Football, he grew up in a football family where the sport was a way of life. With an uncle who both played and coached, Foster developed an appreciation for the game long before he ever stepped onto a varsity field.

That passion carried him to DeMatha Catholic High School, where the daily competition helped shape his approach to the game. Practicing and playing against top talent every day taught him the importance of consistency, preparation, and competing at a high level.

Foster continued his playing career at Lenoir Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. When a new coaching staff arrived, he met the coach who would have the biggest influence on his career, offensive line coach Jalani Lord. More than just a position coach, Lord became a mentor who helped Foster see coaching as a way to stay connected to the game while making a lasting impact on young athletes.

"I knew I wanted to work in sports, but Coach Lord showed me that coaching was the best way to stay in football while positively impacting people's lives."

Foster played five seasons at Lenoir Rhyne, capturing a SAC conference championship and earning All-Conference honors during his final year before transitioning into coaching. He spent several months as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before moving to Western New Mexico. His time there reinforced an important lesson.

"There is talent everywhere. Every program has players and coaches who can teach you something if you're willing to learn."

His coaching journey continued at South Carolina State as Assistant Offensive Line Coach, where he helped the Bulldogs capture both the MEAC Championship and the Celebration Bowl. Today, Foster serves as an Offensive Line Analyst at the University of South Florida, where he continues learning from coaches with experience across every level of football.

One of the defining moments of his career came when he had the opportunity to coach the offensive line on the field for a week, leading up to a game against Norfolk State. Experiences like that reinforced his confidence and prepared him for larger responsibilities.

Throughout every stop, Foster has embraced a simple philosophy: never stop learning.

"Have a learning mindset. You don't know everything, and you can learn from every experience." He also believes that young coaches separate themselves by doing the work others avoid. "Do the jobs that no one wants to do and find ways to add value to the team wherever you can."

Along with Coach Lord, Foster credits Marcus Lawrence, Fayetteville State Assistant Head Coach/ Offensive Line Coach, and his high school coach, Elijah Brooks, as mentors who have played significant roles in his development.

Looking ahead, Foster's immediate goal is to help South Florida compete for an American Athletic Conference championship and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. Long term, he aspires to become an offensive line coach at the Power Four level.

More than anything, he's excited to watch his players' hard work pay off this season.

"I'm looking forward to seeing our players shine and watching the work they've put in throughout the offseason come to life. We have a group of players that are ready to show the country they are ready to compete and win."

From Glenarden Football to DeMatha, Lenoir Rhyne, South Carolina State, and now South Florida, Dylan Foster has built his career by embracing every opportunity to learn, serve, and add value. That mindset continues to open doors while positioning him as one of the rising young coaches in college football.
