Coach Dominique Lewis

By: Haroun Savage (NCMFC Staff)

For the latest member spotlight, we spoke with Campbellsville University Director of Football Operations & Specialists Coach Dominique Lewis. For Coach Lewis, football has always been a part of his life. Growing up in Georgia, he was known as one of the fastest players on the field, but competing against elite talent, including players like Robert Nkemdiche, gave him a new perspective. Those experiences helped him realize early on that his future in the game would come through coaching and leadership.

Coach Lewis continued his athletic career at Union College in Kentucky, where he competed in soccer and track. He also had an opportunity to play football at Arkansas Baptist, but ultimately chose to pursue a full scholarship opportunity that better aligned with his path at the time. His time as a multi-sport athlete helped shape his overall understanding of competition, discipline, and preparation.

His journey into coaching came through relationships. While away from football, one of his closest friends, then a quarterback at Campbellsville, told him about an opportunity on staff. Lewis stepped into a role as Director of Football Operations, marking his return to the game and the beginning of his coaching career.

The transition into the DFO role came with challenges. Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the program, Coach Lewis had to learn quickly and adapt on the fly to ensure everything ran smoothly. With support from his head coach, he was able to grow into the position and become more confident in his responsibilities. That growth translated to success on the field, as the program improved from a 4–6 record in his first season to back-to-back strong seasons, including a 9–1 finish.

As the program evolved, so did his role. Under new leadership, Coach Lewis has taken on additional responsibilities as a specialists coach, continuing to expand his impact within the program. He is focused on contributing in multiple areas while helping build a well-rounded and competitive team.

A defining moment in his career came when he attended a Coalition conference, where he connected with fellow DFOs and coaches such as Letroy Johnson, Sherrod Everett, and Terry Sims. Those relationships provided valuable guidance and reassurance, helping him navigate the challenges of the role and reminding him that others had experienced similar growing pains. The connections he built through the Coalition have continued to play a key role in his development.

In the short term, Coach Lewis is focused on continuing to grow as both a Director of Football Operations and a coach while expanding his network and contributing to the success of the Campbellsville program. Long-term, his goal is to become an Athletic Director and continue impacting student-athletes at a higher level.

For Coach Lewis, the Coalition has been instrumental in creating meaningful connections with coaches and administrators who are committed to helping others grow. He values being part of a network that provides support, opportunity, and representation. As he continues to develop in his career, he remains focused on putting in the work and building a program that reflects his commitment to growth and excellence.
