Update on Self-Employed Assistance Program – PUA
The CARES Act Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) creates a temporary federal unemployment insurance program for individuals not otherwise eligible for UI benefits, including the self-employed, independent contractors, and gig economy workers. Applications for the PUA Program will start the week of April 27, and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) will be able to begin making PUA payments in May. Please note, it typically takes up to 21 days for first-time claims to be paid if there are no issues on the claim. For more information on unemployment insurance, including the claimant handbook, frequently asked questions, and a link to online filing and more information, visit Unemployment.IN.gov.
