Dear Nevada AAP Members,

THANK YOU to the members who joined our Quarterly Virtual Board/Member meeting on Saturday. I am especially grateful for the chapter leaders who presented the many ways they volunteer their time to improve pediatric outcomes in Nevada! Read about much of this work in today's issue of Updates.

Our next Quarterly Virtual Meeting is on Saturday, July 30 at 8:30 am. Chapter Board members have been sent a calendar invite. All chapter members are welcome but must register by noon the day before.

Special note for leader members of our Section on Pediatric Trainees (SOPT): By the time we have our next virtual member meeting, the new pediatric resident training session will have started at UNLV and many of our medical students will have moved out of state to start their internship year. For those of you leaving Nevada, we will miss you and although we are sad for ourselves, are happy for you and the new adventures you begin! For AAP member of SOPT remaining in Nevada who want to be involved with Chapter leadership, please contact me at ED@NevadaAAP.org.

Be well and May the 4th be with you,

Leann

Nevada AAP Supports Clean Trucks
Nevada AAP Chapter Climate Advocate Debra Hendrickson, MD, FAAP and Nevada AAP Member and Chair of Pediatrics at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Evelyn Montalvo Stanton, MD, FAAP joined the Nevada AAP, the American Lung Association, and other advocacy partners and health providers to encourage Governor Sisolak to adopt the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) to accelerate clean air benefits and to achieve our state climate goals.

On March 31, Governor Sisolak signed the Multi-State MOU on Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicles (MHDV) to collaborate on a multi-state action plan to support a sustainable zero-emissions MHDV market and widespread electrification of MHDVs. This Executive Order will address harmful emissions from the transportation sector and unlock major air and climate benefits.

ERA Resolution
The Nevada Equal Rights Amendment is on the ballot in Nevada as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 8, 2022.

Following the lead of the AAP Annual Leadership Conference last year, the Nevada AAP in it's April Board meeting has voted in a new resolution in support of the Nevada ERA.

Chapter Resolutions provide a formal mechanism whereby the members of the Nevada Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics can give input concerning Chapter policy and activities.

Avoid the Back to School Vaccine Rush
For the 2022-2023 Nevada school year, all students entering 12th grade in Public, Private or Charter schools must have a dose of MenACWY vaccine on or after their 16th birthday. Learn More Here

Nevada pediatricians are encouraged to utilize WebIZ now to see which of your patients are going to be due for this and all other recommended vaccinations. Investing in a recall program at your clinic can help you and your patients to avoid the back-to-school rush at the end of the summer. Follow these instructions to create a recall report.
Innovation in Developmental Surveillance and Screening During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The AAP, with support from the CDC, conducted interviews with 9 emerging practices across the country to identify innovative developmental surveillance, screening, referral, and follow-up practice modifications during the COVID-19 pandemic. Information gathered from these interviews resulted in a new (free) PediaLink course, an emerging practice repository, and practice pearls highlighting innovative strategies to incorporate in your own practice.
New PediaLink Course: Infection Prevention and Control for Pediatric Clinics
Experience with COVID-19 has underscored the importance of infection prevention in the office. This includes applying Standard Precautions for all patient care, regardless of the patient’s suspected or confirmed infection status. All health care facilities should ensure that infection prevention and control actions are taken to minimize the risk of exposure to infectious diseases. The purpose of this free, on-demand course is to train pediatric practice managers on infection prevention and control (IPC) basics, and how to create safer environments for pediatric care teams, patients, and their families. Register here.
