August 2017 - HOT From The Pit
It's that time again, time for another issue of the HOTtest thing to hit your inbox this month- so set your thermometer's alarms, toss another apple log in your firebox, grab a  beverage and let's take a peek together at what's been going on in The Pit the last month.

It's HOT From The Pit, August 2017!
1st Place Steak Champion, BarBQ22!

The Great American Cookout Tour – presented by the Kansas City Barbeque Society ( in Alamosa, CO back in early August was kind to our fellow Pit member! He says only a "$25.00 Weber I found on Craigslist and a cast iron grate off my gas grill (for sear marks) is all it took, along with a little Mexican ingenuity!" He took home a prize of over $500!

A hearty congrats from all of us!

Meathead:  The Book
It's been out a while now, and it's a New Your Times best seller.  Do you have a copy yet?
More than just the website in a book,  Meathead: The Science of Great Barbecue and Grilling contains new recipes, updates to classic recipes, and is structured in a linear beginning-middle-end format so it flows naturally.  Recipes accompany the concepts as you learn them.

If you haven't had the chance to add this book to your shelf or nightstand, what are you waiting for?

Maybe you know someone who loves to cook but "doesn't do computers", needs to learn to smoke ribs the right way, or would love the science-forward aspect of BBQ.  Why not make their year by sending them their own copy ?
