Mashpee Chamber Bulletin | June 11th 2020
Your Weekly Member-to-Member Bulletin
brought to you by our Community Partner
Dear Mashpee Chamber Members and Mashpee Community,

We now have outdoor dining. Our retailers are opening up gradually. The mini golf course is waiting for us. We're ready for summer to start here in Mashpee.

Within this Bulletin, you'll find a preview of local businesses opening in Phase 2, which began on Monday, June 8th. There are also links to all of the safety precautions these businesses must take in order to operate and keep you and your loved ones safe.

Please keep in mind that the virus is still present. While we go out and enjoy the company of others, it is our responsibility to our community to keep our noses and mouths covered, keep our hands clean, and give other plenty of space.

We can't wait to see all those home-made masks out and about!
Phase 2 of Reopening
Phase 2 of Reopening Massachusetts began on Monday, June 8th.

Additionally, please consider this message form the Cape Cod Reopening Task Force:

The Cape Cod Reopening Task Force has been working with local elected officials, town managers and town departments to help both towns and businesses be fully prepared to bring the Cape’s economic activity back online. Several tools have been developed to help in this effort, including a   Business Impact Survey  to assess progress, an  economic data dashboard  to report information that may assist you with business planning or grant writing.

A new website has been launched as a resource for residents, visitors, towns and businesses. It can be found at  www.reopeningcapecod.org . We have also prepared an FAQ sheet on testing that may be helpful to employers.

As you prepare to adjust your business workspaces and products and services, we will continue to share information such as this article:

U.S. Census Please Respond

Please respond and help Mashpee receive state and federal funding.

Recently the U.S. Census has resumed field operations in the Town of Mashpee.

Of note, census workers are dropping off paper forms included in their invitation package on the doorsteps of residents who receive mail through a P.O. Box. We have been assured that census workers are taking all precautions to make this non-contact delivery as smooth and safe as possible.

The U.S. Census counts every person in the country every 10 years.

The information gathered through the census is used to decide how much our communities get in state and federal money for public health, transportation, and education.

The census is quick, easy, and important, and all of your answers are confidential. You can respond to the U.S. Census by going online to my2020census.gov, by phone at (844) 330-2020, or by mailing back the paper form delivered to you.

Please respond and be counted today.

With so many of us experiencing psychological distress brought on by the pandemic, there can be much healing through the power of enlightenment. Join Dale Boch as he leads a virtual satsang, during which he will discuss how we can recognize and experience our true selves and let go of our “contrived self.” By vigilantly focusing on the “I” and not the things we think about, Boch believes a true knowledge of oneself can come to light, helping us to align with the intelligence of nature and live a happier life.

During this satsang, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, as ample time will be dedicated to an open dialogue with Boch.

Date: June 11
Time: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Keep customers and employees safe by providing hand sanitizer stations at your place of business. Not only will these units help with sanitation, but customers will feel more comfortable and safe in your storefront, spending more time in your business. Nauset Disposal’s Sanitation Stations are a versatile and convenient solution for keeping hands clean when water is not available. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers kill germs by disrupting the membranes of various microorganisms, including many viruses like Covid-19.

JUNE COME TOGETHER

As we enter the month of June we can’t help but reflect on how emotional and intense these past few months have been - for so many reasons. We have always said that we can get through this by coming together as a community. “This” could mean a pandemic, a local tragedy, a natural disaster or unrest happening nationwide. We know that coming together in the physical sense is a little more challenging than it was just 12 weeks ago, but there are other ways to make it happen. You can attend an online vigil held by a local community group. Or double down on your support for local business. Or offer words of understanding, encouragement and friendship to each other online. And a really good way to come together and connect as we continue to socially distance is to attend events that local cultural organizations, businesses and musicians are holding virtually.

The Cahoon Museum
Brush Off Art Auction
is on...
online that is!

This year, nearly 75 local and regional artists, offering over 100 artworks, will participate in the Museum’s most important fundraiser. Rain or shine, this new online opportunity allows anyone (anywhere!) to participate and support the Museum and its excellence in exhibitions and programs.

The auction will go live on July 1 and bidding will take place from July 1 - July 24.

We’re happy to announce that the 2020 Guide is out and available for download!

We encourage you to call or check the website of these vendors! Our guide was finalized way back in March prior to the crisis. Due to the pandemic many farmers, retailers and restaurants have adapted their businesses to prioritize the safety of the community, and some of the info in this guide is outdated.

SNAP and the Healthy Incentive Program continues to support food insecure communities. Farmers who participate in either HIP or SNAP want you to know they are here for you and are working to make their food available to you. We hope this information will help connect you to local food and products and give you an opportunity to support local businesses as they continue their commitment to getting fresh products to you.

From SCORE Cape Cod & the Islands

As a Small Business owner, you earn the privilege of and the responsibility to be a leader...of your business, for your employees and importantly, in your community. Yes, this has been a stressful year as we all struggle to work through the pandemic. But now we are faced with another pandemic...the realities surrounding the tragic death of George Floyd and the resulting call for action within our country and our community. Oftentimes, our instinct is to avoid talking about issues such as race. Not because we don't care but rather because we fear saying the wrong thing.

However today, as community leaders, Small Business owners need to go beyond diversity initiatives and determine how we can make a tangible, positive change in both our work and community environments. This will be critical as we emerge from the pandemic so let's step up to the challenge.

The Cape Cod Commission created the Cape Cod COVID-19 Dashboard to provide demographic and economic data for Cape Cod towns, non-profit organizations, and businesses recovering from the economic impacts of COVID-19. The dashboards include regional and town data (when available) on population demographics, unemployment trends, rooms and meals tax revenues, employment, housing, and seasonality.

The U.S. Senate by unanimous consent cleared the House-passed bill to extend the Paycheck Protection Program.

The bill:

Extends the PPP loan forgiveness period to include costs incurred over 24 weeks after a loan is issued or through Dec. 31, whichever comes first. Businesses that received a loan before the measure is enacted could keep the current eight-week period.

Extends to Dec. 31 from June 30 a period in which loans can be forgiven if businesses restore staffing or salary levels that were previously reduced. The provision would apply to worker and wage reductions made from Feb. 15 through 30 days after enactment of the CARES Act, which was signed into law on March 27.

Maintains forgiveness amounts for companies that document their inability to rehire workers employed as of Feb. 15, and their inability to find similarly qualified workers by the end of the year. Under the modified measure, companies would be covered separately if they show that they couldn’t resume business levels from before Feb. 15 because they were following federal requirements for sanitization or social distancing.

Extends the deadline to apply for a PPP loan to Dec. 31 from June 30.

Requires at least 60% of forgiven loan amounts to come from payroll expenses.

Repeals a provision from the CARES Act that barred companies with forgiven PPP loans from deferring their payroll tax payments.

Allows borrowers to defer principal and interest payments on PPP loans until the SBA compensates lenders for any forgiven amounts, instead of the current six-month deferral period. Borrowers that don’t apply for forgiveness would be given at least 10 months after the program expires to start making payments.

Establishes a minimum loan maturity period of five years following an application for loan forgiveness, instead of the current two-year deadline set by the SBA. That provision would apply to PPP loans issued after the measure is enacted, though borrowers and lenders could agree to extend current loans.

Since the House passed the bill May 28. The bill was signed by the President.

Dear Clients-

In these ever changing times, we wanted to reach out and continue our conversation with you, our valued client. Together, we've worked through our initial reactions to the crisis, been proactive about responding to the current times, and are now preparing for our region's re-opening. As a locally owned and operated business, we were able to grasp the local business climate immediately and jump in to support our clients. Some actions we took in partnership:

Worked with clients to tweak and adapt advertising messages.

  • Highlighted "Feel Good Business Stories" to showcase businesses doing generous deeds for the local community, through our on air mentions and social media.
  • Launched a multi-media campaign to help non-profit organizations receive exposure on air and online.
  • Launched the CCB Media Marketing Education Webinar Series, which offered tactical ideas for clients to gain new customers through Google My Business, Google Analytics, and Mobile Marketing.
  • Launched the CCB Media Small Business survey for our clients as an ongoing benchmark to monitor business sentiments on the Cape.

And now, as we prepare for re-opening, we are engaging closely with our clients on planning new advertising strategies and plans to grow their business.
