Governor of San Luis Potosí, Mexico to Visit Mission to Discuss Trade Opportunities
Article by: Mission EDC
MISSION – [July 30, 2024] – Mission Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza will welcome the Governor of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, on Wednesday to discuss trade opportunities and tour the $88 million commercial expansion of the Anzalduas International Bridge.
The governor’s visit comes about a month after Garza led a trade mission to the state’s capitol alongside the Mission Economic Development Corporation team. During the weeklong visit, Mission’s delegation held an investment roundtable with key stakeholders, attended an automotive conference, and met with the state’s Secretary of Economic Development Jesús Salvador González Martínez and Jaime Chalita Zarur, the city’s economic development director. The mayor cemented Mission’s relationship by signing a trade accord with the City of San Luis Potosí.
“This is a significant event for the City of Mission,” Garza said about Cardona’s visit. “The state of San Luis Potosí is a key player in Mexico’s automotive industry, and I’m honored Governor Cardona accepted my invitation to explore new trade opportunities created by the commercial expansion of the Anzalduas International Bridge.”
Last year, San Luis Potosí attracted ten automotive projects worth more than $1.6 billion, making it the third leading state in Mexico for auto industry investments. Mission seeks to support the development of the supply chain infrastructure via the Anzalduas International Bridge and connect it to Texas’ automotive industry.
“San Luis Potosí has really leveraged the nearshoring phenomenon through supportive government policies, a skilled workforce and the establishment of automotive clusters, which have encouraged collaboration among manufacturers, suppliers, and research institutions,” Mission EDC CEO Teclo J. Garcia said, noting his team has met twice with the Automotive Cluster of San Luis Potosí. “Our mission is to direct some of that investment to Mission via the Anzalduas International Bridge, which will soon offer trade partners a new, safe, and efficient gateway into the United States.”
On Wednesday, Cardona will be briefed about the ongoing expansion of the bridge during a private tour with Mission’s mayor. A press conference will be held afterward at 10 a.m.
Cardona is also slated to participate in a closed-door roundtable discussion with Rio Grande Valley leaders at Mission EDC, including industrial park owners, elected officials and other economic developers.

Renovations at Anzalduas Park in Mission have been completed
Article by: KRGV
Anzalduas Park near Mission has been a focal point of the immigration debate and recently, renovation work on a pier has been completed.
The pier has new wooden planks and a protective barrier on the bottom to make it last longer. Before renovations began, the wood beams on the pier were bending and, at times, hard to walk on.
Fiberglass was also placed on the bottom of the pier to protect the wood and make it last up to 40 years.
The renovation project took Hidalgo County Precinct 3 about three months to complete.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Everardo Villarreal said the upgrade makes the pier look nicer and makes it safer to use.
"It was very deteriorated and, actually, it was kinda dangerous and unstable. Some of the piers started collapsing the ones underneath," Villarreal said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety paid for the project with Operation Lone Star funding, since they use the boat ramp for border security operations.
