It’s time for another Member Spotlight, where we highlight you, one of our cherished members of the Fleetster Community This month, we’re talking with Melody Bazyar-Catalano.
Tell us about yourself.
My now-husband and I had our first date in Balboa Park, and we still spend much of our free time exploring the park and different museums. As children, growing up in the North County, we both visited the Fleet for field trips and I had not been back since. My husband volunteered at the Fleet, working with kids in designing their own nebulae. Last year we attended our first The Sky Tonight planetarium show at the Fleet and were hooked! We then decided to become members so we could explore the Fleet more regularly, contribute to the mission as members and bring some of our friends' kiddos along to get excited about science. We have brought my parents with us, too!
How long have you been a member of the Fleet?
Less than a year.
Why did you join our member program?
We both are huge science nerds, but because we didn't have children, we forgot about the magic that is the Fleet! Attending The Sky Tonight reminded us of all the Fleet had to offer, and we decided to join!
What has been your best experience as a Fleet member?
I think it was our first visit as adults to attend The Sky Tonight. It was such a fun date night and we explored the museum a bit, too. Sharing the Fleet with our loved ones for special events has also been very memorable.
What is your favorite documentary that has played at the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater?
Ancient Caves was so cool!
