Dear Anne,
Yesterday, we published our new research findings on State Board Governance. You may have heard/read about the new findings on RTE’s Morning Ireland, The Irish Times, the Irish Independent, and the Business Post.
While the findings shine a light on the reputational concerns members have when considering serving on State Boards, 72% of directors and business leaders would still consider applying for a State Board position.
There is a largely positive view on the current Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies. Yet, there is also a desire for the Code to be revised to reflect the latest in governance developments and its provisions on oversight, accountability, and implementation.
Concerns were also raised on the recruitment process to State Boards, in respect of relevant experience and skills. The research findings are available to view on our website.
This survey is a starting point. We will conduct further research to shape our workshops/short programmes, events and content and to offer recommendations to Government on enhancing policy on the governance of State Bodies.
Thank you to everyone who took part. We will shortly reach out to those of you who have agreed to participate further in this research.
