The agenda has been developed for our November 16 UP Connection and registration is filling up! Wondering what you can be a part of? Here's what we're working on:

Staying Sane
Wisconsin’s 2016-17 Special Services Teacher of the Year, Barb Van Doorn will present this interactive session for all participants. You will be guided through an exercise that helps you identify your daily assignments that bring you joy, and those that cause you distress. Applicable for teachers and support staff, this 60-minute session provides valuable information for the rest of the day's activities. Barb is a guidance counselor at Lake Holcombe school district.

Panel Discussion
We're assembling groups of members who will share their successful campaigns. They worked together to strategize about issues they had in their district, and will tell us how they WON.

Lunch
We'll provide the food and drink while participants divide into their respective Zones to chat about topics of interest. Salary schedules? Political Action? Cranky bosses? It's your call! Bring your ideas and questions and network with the folks in your area.

Break Out Sessions
Using the information gleaned from the "Staying Sane" activity, we'll divide into like-minded groups to discuss how to begin to address issues in your Local. These are a few of the questions we'll discuss: How do we identify the decision-makers? How do we influence them? How do we bring people together on a common cause?

ALL of this in just 4.5 hours! We look forward to seeing you on November 16!

Professional Development
Region 3 is planning a professional development conference for Saturday, January 25th. (In case it matters to you, this is a bye weekend between NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl!) It will be the 2nd year of sharing best practices and learning new skills - - member to member!

Last year's conference included sessions such as "Mindfulness for Teachers and ESP," "GaGa for Google Classroom," "Special Ed. Law and Violent Students," "Managing Student Behaviors," and "Beating Back the Bully Principal."

Now's the time for you to think about topics that YOU would be willing to present! Fill out the Call for Proposals form and help us fill the agenda for this great event. Fun Fact: Presenters get a $200 stipend!
Comments from last year:

Very informative. Very relatable presenter. Thanks!!

This was great. I learned a lot and it was very helpful!

Got more out of this class than I have in all my other classes I have taken.
Hi all,

I am a person who stands up for what is right asking all of you that care about public education and the fate of the hard-working educators in your district(s) to come together on November 16 to learn about how we can work together to affect the change we need to have success in our schools.

Peace,
Kathy Rohde
