Hi Members!! We need financial contributions -- no matter how small -- towards cash awards for the upcoming Members Exhibition. This year the juror will award a total of $2550 in cash plus merchandise awards.
We need to cover a $150 Pride of Denton Award (selected by Denton's Mayor Chris Watts) and a $100 Honorable Mention Award as well as monies towards the $750 Best of Show. We already have great member support for other awards. Every $ counts and is very welcome!! You can name an award with a contribution of $100 or more. Everyone will be acknowledged in the program.

Juror: Colby Parsons
, MFA, is an Associate Professor in
Visual Art at Texas Woman's University, where he
teaches Ceramics and Emergent Media. Colby's work
explores the potential meanings and aesthetics
within the convergence of traditional and digital
media, and works in a range of media and formats
including ceramics, digital fabrication, projection
mapping, and interactivity. Colby's work has been
shown nationally and internationally at venues
including Navy Pier in Chicago, the Taipei County
Yingge Ceramics Museum; the International Ceramic
Research Center in Denmark; the Orange County
Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana,
California; the University of Pennsylvania Art
Museum; and in Dallas at the Craighead Green
Gallery, the Pawn Gallery, and 500X. In 2015, Colby
was awarded the $20,000 Zanesville Art Prize, the
most valuable ceramics prize in the western
hemisphere.
A few rules to abide by:
- 2D and 3D work including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, fiber, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewelry, metalworking, and wood.
- No installations.
- Wall mounted work must be framed and ready for secure installation - d-rings attached to the back and stretched with wire; no saw-tooth hangers.
- Fiber pieces/quilts and other wall mounted works must have a hanging apparatus able to hang from 1 or 2 nails.
- Bumpers are required for framed pieces.
- 40" max. width for 2D work.
- 70 pounds max. weight
- White, off-white, grey or black mats only.
- Works on canvas must be framed or have clean, finished gallery wrapped edges.
- Works must not have been exhibited in any previous VAST juried exhibition.

Course Description - Art Quilt Collage:
Create surface design on fabric with hand made stamps, found object printing, stencils, wet-on-wet painting, handwriting and other improvisational mark-making then use your original fabrics plus various commercial fabrics to create an original small art quilt incorporating hand stitching. You'll have lots of left over fabrics to incorporate in collage or other mixed media projects.

The balance is due one month prior to workshop. If the participant must cancel, the VAST workshop coordinator will attempt to fill the open spot from the official waiting list. If there are not enough participants to cover the workshop costs, or if VAST must cancel for any reason, participants will be notified and will promptly receive a full refund including the deposit.

In September, VAST will sponsor a monthly drawing session with a live model. This two hour open studio at the Arts Center will have no instructor. The group is available to VAST members only.

Artists will create foam stamps from their drawings. They will be work with these foam stamps using powder charcoal to create under paintings on canvas or canvas boards. Then, the artist will use pencils, acrylic paints and/or other mediums to complete their artwork.

Plano Art Association: 11th Annual 125 Show 2016

The show is open to all artists living within 125 miles of Plano. The show will be held at the PAA Gallery in downtown Plano.
Judges will select the top 60 works for display in the PAA gallery.

A YEAR ON THE PLAZA ART COMPETITION
Deadline to Enter original artwork by Thursday, August 25 at 3:00pm.
Winning work displayed on art wall in Dallas Arts District for one year, no entry fees.
Presented by The Catholic Foundation, the unique competition is accepting original work, searching for a piece of art to adorn a 28-foot-long by 9-foot-wide public art wall in the Dallas Arts District for one year. Submissions must measure 28 inches by 9 and 2/3 inches, and the winning work will be digitally enlarged to cover the wall.
The winning artist receives a $2,500 stipend and honorable mentions receive $250 each.
"A Year on the Plaza Art Competition presents a unique opportunity for talented individuals in Texas to express themselves artistically and showcase their work in the Dallas Arts District," said J. Matthew Kramer, president and CEO of The Catholic Foundation.
Submissions must be appropriate for the location of the Plaza on the Cathedral grounds but do not require a religious theme. There are no entry fees.
Once the winning piece is selected by a panel of highly respected members of the local arts community, it will be unveiled during a public dedication ceremony in October 2016.

2016/2017 VAST Artist Day Out |
VAST Artist Day Out is a day where members may come paint at the PA-AC from 9:00am - 3pm, approximately two mornings a month. There is no instructor, it is not a workshop...just an art gathering.
You may paint, sketch, quilt or what ever creative endeavor you desire in the fellowship with your artist friends. Lunch and fellowship are the best parts!
The cost is $10 a year, or $1 a session if you just want to drop in every now and then. Pay with your dues, or you can send $10 to:
