Ready for recruiting season?

We’ve got tons of resources for you to be successful!

Check out our useful lists below.

Planning:

  • Make sure your unit’s information on BeaScout.org is up to date and the email listed is one you are monitoring.
  • Identify a membership chair for your unit.
  • Review the Council’s helpful Cub Scout Pack Recruitment Resources guide.
  • Make sure your unit leaders are regularly checking on Applications in My.Scouting.org (“Application Manager”).

Materials:

  • Review your unit’s website and make sure all contact info is up to date and links are working.
  • If your host organization will allow it, post a yard sign out front and create a bulletin board in the lobby (including photos and current contact info).
  • Request any marketing materials you need from Council (e.g., flyers, promo cards, brochures, and yard signs).

Recruiting events:

  • Plan one or more recruiting events to take place in August or September.
  • Send the details to Jeff Mixon to be added as an event to the District’s Facebook page.
  • Ask parents to publicize your event on Facebook and NextDoor. Ask every Scout to invite a friend.
  • Post yard signs at your local school and pass out flyers if they will let you.
  • Post flyers in your local park, climbing gym, library, martial arts studio, gymnastics studio, and community center.
  • Create a digital flyer to post in community social media groups like local parents’ groups.

Help us paper the town!

This September, we’d like families in our District to see Scouting everywhere they turn! Marketing is especially important at the start of the school year, so we’re asking all hands on deck to help us post these flyers around town between Aug. 15-Sept. 15. Can you (or the parents in your unit) help us post these green Adventure On! flyers across your community – at your local library, church, climbing gym, community pool, dance studio, farmer’s market, grocery store, rec center, park, nature center, taekwondo studio, or other places?

We can bring you a stack of flyers. Contact Katie Kross to arrange for a drop-off of these flyers.

Marketing materials & yard signs available

The Council office has yard signs in stock for Cub Scout Packs, as well as New Family brochures, stickers, wristbands, and flyers.  You can arrange to pick these up in the Council office on your next trip, or ask Katie Kross to bring some to you.

New member promotion: 7-in-1 whistle

Occoneechee Council is offering a fun new promotion this Fall!

Every new Cub Scout that joins this Fall will receive a FREE 7-in-1 survival whistle, which includes a thermometer, magnifier (5x), signaling mirror, LED flashlight, compass, and storage tube.

7-in-1 whistle

These are already in the Council office and are available while supplies last, so get your Cubs signed up and send a request for the appropriate number of whistles to Adam Van Stedum, Director of Field Services. After he approves your request, they can be picked up in the Council office or brought to you by our new District Executive. You do not have to wait until the end of recruiting to submit a request, so we recommend you send requests in batches to reward your early sign-ups.

Questions?  Want to get involved?

Are you involved with membership and recruiting for your Troop or Pack?  We’d love to have you join the District Membership Committee!  We’ll collaborate on marketing and membership activities across the District so that each unit is not “reinventing the wheel.”  We meet by Zoom on the first Friday of each month at 9am.  Contact Justin Sprague if interested in joining.
