Rebranding as Scouting America

Parents, local communities, and national media are excited about BSA’s new name: Scouting America.  Check out the story in USA Today.

Now is the time to update your Pack or Troop’s website, email signatures, Google groups, and other places you have previously used the “Boy Scouts” name.

If you’d like to update your uniform, the Scout Shop has patches that can be sewn over the organization’s name.

Scout Sunday article

Get featured in your local newspaper!

Jennifer Long, Pack 605 in Henderson, reached out to their community’s local newspaper, the Henderson Dispatch, to let them know about Scout Sunday… and they were featured in the daily news!

Your community might like to hear about your pack or troop’s news as well.  Can you share a story about a recent community service project or camping trip?

Scouting Fun Night

It’s not too late to add new members!

While we usually think about recruiting new families to Scouting in the fall, some units find that Spring is a great time to get new Scouts involved without all of the distraction of competing events and activities that happen at the start of the school year.  Pack 449 in Chapel Hill recently held a campfire event and asked Cub Scout families to each bring a friend.

It’s important to acknowledge that integrating new Cub Scouts into rank advancement in the Spring can pose challenges for den leaders.  Experienced Cubmasters suggest emphasizing that Spring additions to a Pack will still be able to earn belt loops and be recognized by name at award ceremonies, even if they don’t have time to complete all badge requirements before the end of the year.

Spring community events

Are there opportunities for a Scouting America booth at upcoming events in your community?  Look around for spring community fairs, farmer’s market celebrations, and Earth Day festivals in your area.

Need help getting a booth and materials together?  The Membership Committee can help!  Reach out to Katie Kross and we’ll share options for getting materials and volunteers to help.

Cub Scout recruiting

Need help for your Pack?

Is your Cub Scout pack struggling to attract members? Would you like some additional help in filling out a new den or in meeting your fall membership goals? If yes, please send a note to Justin Sprague to let us know and we can work with your unit individually. We can bring you marketing materials, brainstorm best practices, and engage your unit commissioner to help.
