Membership Update

July 2026

Fall is almost here! Your efforts over the next few weeks can set the stage for a successful year of Scouting. Here are a few important updates and resources to help your unit prepare.

Updates to BeAScout.org

On August 3, 2026, BeAScout will introduce an updated look and feel designed to better support prospective families. The enhanced experience will provide answers to common questions before families contact a unit, including:

  • Estimated cost to join
  • Unit meeting days and times
  • Whether the unit charges additional dues

To support these improvements, several new fields have been added to the Unit Pin page in My.Scouting Organization Manager:

  • Fundraising Helps Cover Costs
  • Trial Visit Encouraged
  • Unit Fee
  • Meeting Schedule: Meeting Frequency, Meeting Day, Start Time, End Time

Unit Leaders: Please make sure your BeAScout pin is updated before August 3!

(NOTE: Changes to these fields in Unit Pin settings will not reflect until August 3, 2026.)

Is Your Unit's Fall Recruitment Event(s) Scheduled?

Summer will be over before you know it, and parents are looking for activities for their kids. We know Scouting is a great choice, but we need to make sure parents do, too!

The Cradle of Liberty Council provides FREE digital advertising for all of its units, but we need to know what your unit is planning in order to make it happen! Submit the details of your fall recruitment event and the Cradle of Liberty Council will advertise your event on Facebook/Instagram for up to 14 days prior, free of charge. A membership specialist will reach out to you to confirm the details and make sure your unit has what it needs for a successful recruitment.

We need the information at least three weeks prior to your scheduled event in order to maximize advertising and ensure your unit has what it needs. If you know now, please let us know so we can start planning.

Preparing for the Fall

As summer winds down, now is the perfect time for units to prepare for a successful fall. The units that grow and thrive aren't necessarily the biggest—they're the ones that have a plan.

Here are five simple things every unit should do before the first meeting of the new school year:

1. Put your calendar together.

Families are busy. Publish your meeting schedule, campouts, service projects, and major events as early as possible so parents can put them on their calendars.

2. Plan your recruiting efforts.

Work with your district membership team to identify school nights, community events, and other opportunities to welcome new youth. Submit your unit's recruitment info. Make sure your BeAScout pin is up to date and that someone is ready to respond quickly to new inquiries.

3. Prepare an exciting first meeting.

The first meeting sets the tone for the year. Make it active, fun, and welcoming for both returning Scouts and new families.

4. Check your leadership team.

Confirm that key adult leaders are registered, have current PA clearances and Safeguarding Youth Training, and know their roles (completing position-specific training online is critical).

5. Set goals for the year.

What do you want your unit to accomplish? Do you have a fundraising plan that's going to support your program goals? Whether it's growing membership, earning advancement, increasing camping opportunities, or serving your community, setting goals now helps keep everyone focused.

A little preparation now can make a tremendous difference throughout the year. If your unit needs assistance with recruiting, program planning, training, or fundraising resources, your district volunteers and council staff are ready to help.

Here's to another outstanding year of Scouting filled with adventure, growth, and unforgettable experiences for every young person we serve!
