HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM WMS!

As we head into the holiday season the WMS staff has been reflecting upon the things for which we are the most grateful, and serving our membership is one of them!

We so greatly appreciate you reading our newsletters and getting involved with policy conversations at local and state levels, we appreciate the physicians and PAs who have taken the time to complete the Wyoming Leaders in Medicine course (and those who will in the future!!), we appreciate those who come to testify in front of the legislature, we appreciate our Board of Trustee volunteers who work tirelessly for our membership, and we appreciate all of the hard work that each of you have put in through a global pandemic! Wyoming is a better, safer, and healthier place because of you!

Medicare Payment Update

Senator Barrasso fought against the Medicare physician payment cuts that were set to take place January 1, 2022.

Thanks to the incredible work of our own U.S. Senator John Barrasso, MD, Wyoming physicians were spared a nearly 10% Medicare physician payment cut. The wheels of Congress don't always move quickly, but with persistence from key physician advocates and the work of our own Dr. Barrasso physicians have once again avoided the physician payment cliff that was set to take effect January 1, 2022.

COVID Updates

Moderna has announces preliminary booster data and updated strategy to address the Omicron variant.

Moderna, Inc., a biotechnology company pioneering messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics and vaccines, announced preliminary neutralizing antibody data against the Omicron variant following the Company’s booster candidates at 50 µg and 100 µg dose levels. The currently authorized 50 µg booster of mRNA-1273 increased neutralizing antibody levelsagainst Omicron approximately 37-fold compared to pre-boost levels and a 100 µg dose of mRNA-1273 increased neutralizing antibody levelsapproximately 83-fold compared to pre-boost levels.

Children's Hospital Colorado is offering monoclonal antibody therapy to patients that fall under new EUA criteria.

The EUA for COVID-19 monoclonal antibodies (mAb), (specifically Bamlanivimab and Etesevimab,) has been updated to include children younger than 12 years old, and patients who weigh less than 40 kilograms (88 pounds). Therefore, Children's Hospital Colorado is now able to provide this treatment for patients who are younger than 12, as long as they meet the rest of the EUA criteria.

Additionally, eligible patients who are over the age of 18 AND currently receive care at Children’s Colorado for a chronic illness, are also able to receive monoclonal therapy through our Infusion Center. Limited appointments are available Monday through Friday at our Infusion Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Providers can refer patients who test positive for COVID-19 and who may meet the EUA criteria for monoclonal antibody therapy by filling out our REDCap survey at redcap.link/COMAB. Patient families can also self-refer for therapy consideration using the same link.
