Wrap the Year Up with the Library!

This holiday season, Wrap the Year Up with a special year-end gift to the Talbot County Free Library to ensure that the library can continue to provide learning resources to our community.  

YOUR financial support helps the library turn the page to offer more diverse programming and become increasingly human-centered. You will help us continue to offer services like cutting-edge 24/7 digital resources and offsite Wi-Fi access.

Step inside one of our branches, and you will see children on the path to literacy and your neighbors enjoying an expansive collection of literature, information, and technology.

Last year, more than 285,000 books and other items circulated! Patrons also enjoyed thousands of e-books and DVDs at their fingertips. Nearly 500,000 of our neighbors took advantage of the library’s free Wi-Fi services and visited our website.

Because of YOU, more exciting changes are in the works for the next year including: 

• The design and construction phase of our St. Michaels Library expansion which will include adding larger children and teen areas, study rooms, and a spacious meeting room, enabling us to meet limitless community needs.

• The creation of a Community Wi-Fi Center in Cordova, MD with a little FREE library.

• A wide variety of art, STEM, music, and cultural programming for all ages.

This unique exhibit includes small paintings by 27 artists of a variety of subjects presented in a variety of mediums including watercolor, oil and acrylic paints, and pastel pigments. You can buy art directly from the artists; the artist's contact information will be displayed with the art.



WAF is a local group of professional artists who meet monthly to share artistic skills and interests. Each meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at the Academy Art Museum includes an artist demonstration which is open to the public. WAF members promote the arts in our communities and support art departments in local schools.

Stop in to see this show and you might find a perfect gift (a small painting) for someone special this holiday season or any other occasion! While you visit this art show, please take a few minutes to tell us which is your favorite painting—we’ll have a box where you can vote (from December 1—15 only) for the People’s Choice! The artists and the library appreciate your visit—so please stop in!

The WAF exhibit will be open during normal library hours in December and January. Check the library website (tcfl.org) for hours during the holiday season.

The Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism and the Economic Development Commission are now accepting online nominations for the 2023 Community Impact Awards.

These awards are presented each year to recognize outstanding businesses, nonprofits, community projects, and individuals who have made a significant impact in Talbot County. Winners will be announced at the annual Talbot County Business Appreciation Summit to be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. at the Tidewater Inn in Easton.

The Summit is hosted each year by the Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism in partnership with the Talbot County Economic Development Commission.

“Your nominations help us recognize those who are doing extraordinary things to make Talbot County a prosperous, forward-thinking place to live and work,” says Cassandra Vanhooser, director of economic development and tourism for Talbot County. “Our businesses and the people who make them work are award-worthy, and we’re grateful to recognize so many of them through this event and in the nomination process.”

Last year’s winners included Channel Marker, Inc. Residential Crisis Services, Chesapeake Landing Seafood Restaurant, Choptank Community Health System, Ferry Cove Oyster Hatchery, and McDaniel resident and volunteer Bill Shrieves.

“This is an exciting event for the business community,” says Vanhooser. “We want to recognize the businesses and individuals in Talbot County who have made a significant impact on the community in 2023. I’m looking forward to seeing the impressive list of winners from this year’s event.”
