UNFORGETTABLE BEGINNINGS TO 2024

Dear Charting Careers Friends and Family,

When we talk to our older scholars about which parts of our programming are most impactful, they often reference the long-term, mentoring relationships and the range of experiences and opportunities. Over the winter break, some of our incredible staff, including Ms. Lily, Ms. Candis, and Ms. Ashley, took a group of scholars on a trip to the U.S. Capitol Building. This was such an amazing opportunity for scholars to ride the MARC, visit where the Senate and House of Representatives meet, explore the National Statuary Hall, including statues of Mary McLeod Bethune, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Hellen Keller, and more! We could not provide these activities without your generous volunteer hours and donations.

As we enter into the spring semester, we need your support more than ever, and there are SO MANY ways to contribute:

1) VOLUNTEER: Sign up to volunteer for our March 7, 2024 Career Day at Annapolis Middle School.

2) EVENT SUPPORT: Purchase tickets for the Rotary's Black Tie & Diamonds event (we are the charity recipient), or buy a raffle ticket.

3) DONATE: Make a donation to Charting Careers or become a Sponsor for the Rotary event.

I am excited about what 2024 has in store for our youth and our community. Whether through your financial support or volunteerism, you are helping our youth create happy memories.

GIRLS HEALTH WORKSHOP

We are so grateful for generous grant support from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County's Women and Girls Fund, which is allowing us to offer a series of Girls Health Workshops to scholars and their parents/caregivers.

Earlier this month was our first Girls Health Workshop, and it included a thoughtfully-planned dinner to help educate young women about healthy eating to support their minds and bodies, an instructional presentation by Mentor and OBGYN Dr. Debra Hardy-Cartwright, time for questions and answers, and the sharing of important supplies.

Thank you to our incredible staff for planning this event, Dr. Hardy-Cartwright for sharing her talents with us, Eastport United Methodist Church for being such a great partner and sharing welcoming spaces, and scholars and parents/caregivers for coming out! To learn more about Dr. Hardy-Cartwright's background and talents, please go here.

PARTNER SHOUT OUTS

Thank you to Leadership Anne Arundel (LAA) for including us as part of their Education Day Non-profit Roundtable Discussion. It is such a pleasure to participate with LAA events. We always leave with valuable new connections and knowledge.

Thank you to MENTOR Maryland DC for hosting the Anne Arundel County Roundtable on Thursday, January 11th. It was inspiring to connect with partner organizations and learn together about trauma-informed care.

Thank you to the The Annapolis MD Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and Mentor Extraordinaire, Dr. Debra Hardy-Cartwright, for inviting this group of young scholars to a special viewing of The Color Purple.

Thank you to Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) and MENTOR Maryland DC for recognizing Charting Careers at the AACPS Mentor MD DC National Mentoring Month Kick Off. We are grateful to partner with these incredible organizations. Together, we can do so much more!

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR

MARCH 7, 2024 CAREER DAY

Are you interested in helping Annapolis youth explore their career interests? Charting Careers, Annapolis Middle School (AMS), and Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation would like to invite you to register as a volunteer Career Guest Speaker for Annapolis Middle School’s 7th-grade Career Day on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 8:30 am-12:00 pm.

AMS Career Day aims to introduce our young leaders to occupations and career fields they may not be aware of and help them connect those areas of interest to their academic work as they prepare for high school and beyond. If you are interested in participating, please register here. f we have an overabundance of volunteers, we may not require everyone's services that day, but will contact you to let you know and to talk about other opportunities.

SUPPORT A COLLEGE SCHOLAR'S BUSINESS

We are proud of Armani, one of our college scholars, for many reasons. Armani has been with Charting Careers since 2018 and is about to complete her program at Anne Arundel Community College. She recently started her own pastry business! Support her by ordering sweets from "Sugarnspice Pastries".
