MEMORANDUM

DATE: March 23, 2020
RE: Coronavirus Update – Litigation Matters
As we at Goldstein Hall PLLC continue to monitor the Coronavirus and COVID-19 threat, we want to reach out to our Clients to assure them that we are continuing to work through this difficult time. Our attorneys and support staff are working from home and are available via emails, telephone conversations, and even video conferencing with you. However, please understand that some response times may be delayed.

Additionally, please be advised that the New York State Court System is also responding to this threat on an evolving basis. Currently, the Court’s have advised that as of Monday March 16, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. all non-essential functions of the Court have been postponed.  That means that most of our court cases will be adjourned. We will monitor the Court dockets and let you know of any adjourn dates. Further, as of Sunday March 22, 2020, the State Court has ordered that all non-essential filings will no longer be accepted, including electronic filings. This means that new cases or actions cannot be commenced, and motions cannot be filed. This includes Landlord Tenant proceedings, where there is currently a moratorium on all evictions. What is not stayed are actions by tenants seeking to stop evictions, nor are actions seeking to address serious code violations or serious repair orders. So far, the Federal Courts have not closed and cases are proceeding. There is a preference to limit in-person appearances and many are being adjourned on a case-by-case basis while others are being held telephonically or by video.

Please do not hesitate to contact Litigation Partner Brian J. Markowitz at [email protected] or (646) 768-4127 or your Goldstein Hall PLLC attorney for more information.
