Memorial Day began as a way to honor service members who, following the line of duty, made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. As a daughter of a World War II Army Combat Veteran, I am committed to do everything I can to serve those who fought for our freedoms. To those who are fighting today, we admire your courage and appreciate your sacrifices.

On behalf of my family, my office, and my constituents, we SALUTE YOU, we HONOR YOU and we THANK YOU.

Lyons Road Construction Update
Engineering and Public Works Department
Construction Update: since May 19, 2023
Construction Update

  • Completion of roadway work is still expected by the end of May 2023; however as previously mentioned, this completion date does not include the intersection at Atlantic Avenue and Lyons Road due to the material delays in signal items. Further, this completion date no longer includes the roadway connection at the south side of the L-38 Canal bridge. That work is expected to take three months once the required change order(s) are approved.
  • The traffic switch preparation work occurred on May 8, 2023, allowing the contractor to work on the southbound lanes. This switch include temporary striping as well as signal timing modifications at Atlantic Avenue and Lyons Road.
  • The contractor has requested that their subcontractor remove the bridge construction equipment as soon as possible.
  • The contractor has not provided a schedule for the second lift of asphalt for the southbound lanes because they plan to complete watermain work prior to final paving.
  • Due to the delay in the delivery of specialized signal items, the demolition, construction, and completion of the intersection of Lyons Road and Atlantic Avenue is delayed. County staff is working with the contractor to provide temporary signals at the intersection. Once installed, the temporary signals will allow the contractor to begin the demolition of existing equipment at the intersection months sooner than waiting for the delayed permanent signal items to arrive. We anticipate temporary signal installation to start in August 2023.
  • Streetlights are still scheduled to be installed by FPL on Lyons Road between Clint Moore Road and Atlantic Avenue starting in the summer of 2024.

Other Project Updates

Flavor Pict Road - SR-7 to Lyons Road, PBC Project 2013526A

  • Still on track for completion in July 2023.

Animal Care & Control Spotlight
Help Clear the Kennel
May adoptions only $5
Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety’s Animal Care and Control Division (ACC) is asking the community to help with efforts to find homes for the 56 adoptable dogs that are in the kennel. As the only open-admission shelter in the county, ACC accepts all animals in need regardless of their condition. Services are provided to lost, homeless and unwanted animals, and help is needed to continue caring for them.

The community can help by adopting or fostering. The kennel has adoptable dogs with different personalities that would suit anyone’s lifestyle. Whether looking for a big dog, small dog, playful pup or couch potato, the shelter has a perfect dog for a family. In May, ACC offers $5 adoptions to motivate the community to adopt instead of shop (#AdoptDontShop) for a furry friend. By adopting or fostering, a dog experiences time in a loving home, and space for another dog in need is created in the shelter.

If looking for a short-term commitment, ACC is encouraging residents to consider becoming a foster through the Foster2Rescue program. Through this program, foster parents take care of a pet for two to six weeks until a forever home is found through the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. All supplies such as food, crate, leash, collar and preventatives are provided. All the foster needs to provide is some love.

PBCACC encourages those interested in fostering or adopting to meet their perfect match in person. Pets can also be viewed online at https://secure.co.palm-beach.fl.us/snap/home. The Foster and adoption application is completed in person at PBCACC. No appointment is needed.

Adoption Center hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
