Before their 54 th season opens this fall, Kirk Players is pleased to host its annual Free Summer Children’s and Adult Theatre Workshops from Monday June 10-Monday July 29. Children, age 5-12, are welcome to participate in experienced actor-led theatre games, improvisational exercises and scene development on Mondays from 6pm-7pm.

The Adult Workshop, age 13 and up, will run from7:30-9:30pm on Monday evenings, and focus on classical American playwright scenes in plays such as Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie and William Inge’s Picnic . “These playwrights helped usher in a period of modern American realism which will serve as the backdrop for scene development, said Jon L Lynn, artistic director for Kirk Players. The focus will embrace other influential playwrights of the period, including Eugene O’Neil, Clifford Odets, Arthur Miller, Lillian Hellman and Neil Simon. “We encourage our adult participants to bring a favorite scene of one of these playwrights to work on during the six-week course,” added Gretchen Grassl, KP adult workshop director. “We also plan to weave in a segment entitled 12 Guideposts , based on Michael Shurtleff’s “Audition”, which we think our adult students will find very useful!”
