Recipe: Easy Steak Salad with Balsamic Dressing

Indulge in a refreshing and hearty meal with this recipe. This recipe combines the rich, savory flavors of grilled steak with the crisp freshness of a mixed green salad. The balsamic dressing adds a tangy and slightly sweet touch that perfectly complements the meat, making it an ideal dish for a quick lunch or a light dinner. Packed with protein, this steak salad provides a satisfying meal without the heaviness of a traditional steak dinner. This is very versatile and you can customize it with different vegetables or cheeses if you prefer.

Ingredients

For the Salad:
1 pound beef flank steak or any steak of your choice
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 cups mixed greens of your choice
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
1/2 cucumber, sliced
1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
1/4 cup sliced almonds or walnuts (optional)
1 avocado, sliced

For the Balsamic Dressing:
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon honey
1 garlic clove, minced
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Prepare the Steak:
Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides.
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Cook the steak for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness.
Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.
Make the Dressing:
In a small bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, Dijon mustard, honey, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Assemble the Salad:
In a large salad bowl, combine the mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, feta cheese, and nuts if using.
Top with sliced avocado and the thinly sliced steak.
Dress and Serve:
Drizzle the balsamic dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat the ingredients evenly.
Serve immediately and enjoy!

Louie's Brat Haus is Open!

The Brat Haus serves as a fundraiser for many local organizations - youth groups, charities, church groups, and more. Louie's Brat Haus will be open most Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through the summer months. The Brat Haus serves Louie's brats, hot dogs, pop, chips, and often some freshly baked goodies.

Hunter & Arcade: Hunter (from Western to Arcade) and Arcade (from Hunter to Lake) are being resurfaced with a mill and overlay treatment. No parking on these blocks the weeks of May 12 and May 19.

The Bacon Run/Walk course will be the same as past years. Start at the Louie's Maypole, turn around at Wickre Dr. for a 1-mile course or at the end of Jeffery Blvd. for a 2-mile course. There will be no timing, but there will be a prize for the first male and female to cross the line in the 2-mile run.

Highway 63 Road Work Update

Two years of road work projects on Highway 63 in the Cumberland area has begun.

The WI DOT has promised that access to local businesses will be maintained. For 2025, Highway 63 will remain open throughout construction. Later in the year, there will be single lane closures which will not occur Friday afternoons and weekends, to keep weekend traffic flowing.

Louie's will be open regular hours. Watch for updates on our Facebook Page and our Website Location Page for any updates if it becomes necessary to suggest alternate routes or options for order pickup.

City of Cumberland update, 5/13/25

***Hwy 63 (from Water St. to Veteran’s St.) will be closed on Saturday, May 17 to replace water service to the Elementary School.

Foster & Grove: Final resurfacing will be completed Tuesday, May 13.

Hunter & Arcade: Hunter (from Western to Arcade) and Arcade (from Hunter to Lake) are being resurfaced with a mill and overlay treatment. No parking on these blocks the weeks of May 12 and May 19.

Hwy 63: Curb, gutter and sidewalk removals on the west side of the downtown business district heading north continue this week. New curb is being installed in this section now. Sidewalk installation will follow shortly thereafter--planned for the week of May 19th. Mirror image work on the east side of the downtown business district should commence just after Memorial Day.

Local ATV/UTV trails are now open!

We are connected to the Barron County ATV trail system and look forward to seeing you.

Louie's Finer Meats, Louie's Lodge, and Louie's on the Lake are accessible on the City of Cumberland ATV routes. Reminder: Highway 63 is only open to cross the bridge; the highway in front of Louie's Finer Meats is not open to ATVs - please use the legal side streets and the driveways on Jeffery Blvd. to access the Louie's parking lot.

Comstock Cheese & Sausage is located on the Joe Kasper Trail between Cumberland & Turtle Lake - now with gravel trailside parking! Stop and see us for lunch and enjoy our outdoor picnic area.
