A Letter from the Director...
July is here and as we begin to cautiously return to normal activity, the library staff is committed to the safety of our community. We are so happy to see our patrons coming to the library to return books and request curbside services. This month, we will begin to safely welcome all of you back into the building to use the library technology and browse the collection. The staff is grateful for your cooperation as we encourage everyone to wear a mask and social distance.
Some changes you will notice when you visit the library include that we created a pop-up children's department on the first floor. This will allow children to browse the children's collection in a more spacious environment. A self-check-out station is available on the first floor of the library so that interactions are kept at a minimum. The library computers have been dressed with keyboard and mouse protectors which are cleaned in between each use.
As we enter this traditionally carefree summer month, we are more cautious of our actions and behaviors than before. However, the sun shines brightly, new books are being cataloged for you to enjoy, and summer programming looks different but is engaging, fun, and convenient. There are computers available for you and there are many resources available to you through our electronic resources.
Let's enjoy these days of summer. I encourage you to rely on the library for your source of relaxation, creativity, and educational resource. Sarah Dessen wrote in her novel,
Along for the Ride, "In the summer, the days were long, stretching into each other. Out of school, everything was on pause and yet happening at the same time, this collection of weeks when anything was possible."
Stay safe and well.
See you at the library,
Holly Bennett
Library Director, Inf
ormation Conductor, and Community Ambassador

A Community Project:
COVID-19 Time Capsule
Since the inception of the Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity (MLNV) in 1951, the
library has been a repository of stories about the people and events that created the
town of Nazareth. Now, as Nazareth and the rest of the world are facing the challenges
of the COVID-19 virus, we want to preserve the stories of how our lives are being
disrupted and transformed by the virus. To that end, we ask for your help in chronicling
our collective pandemic experiences.
|
If you are documenting life during the current situation through photographs, written
records, audio recordings, videos, or other methods, please share your story with us.
We would love to hear about acts of kindness you are seeing in your neighborhood, our
medical worker heroes in action, and small business owners helping to meet the needs
of the community. We also want to hear about overcoming social isolation, the trials and
tribulations of grocery shopping, and the experiences of our children learning online.
No story is too trivial or mundane. We welcome your help in documenting this unique
time in history. By sharing your stories, you will help the MLNV fulfill our mission of
recording history and enlightening future generations.
To submit your stories, you will need an email account. If you need help setting up an account, please call the main desk at 610.759.4932 x1 and leave a message.
To share your story, we ask that you fill out and submit one of the following forms (depending on your email carrier):
- If you have a Gmail account, click here.
- If you have any other email account (e.g., Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL), click here.
Thank you!
|
Stop by the library on Wednesdays, and you can check out vegetables free for the taking outside the main door.
We ask that you please respect social distancing guidelines, and please only touch the items you intend on taking.
|
