Bringing the Far Near, and the Near Far
Those farthest away from the Lord Jesus become the nearest, with hope, joy, and anticipation putting them on the move; those nearest to him are the farthest away, with status, presumption, and studied certitude locking them in place-that is, until fixation is scandalized by fluidity. All bets are off when "the Christ" emerges from the dusty prophetic scrolls and enters the local annals: He who is far becomes near-yes,
painfully near-to those for whom God is, naturally, at their beck and call, those who are exponentially certain that the rug underneath their feet is the best spot on earth. He who has come near has become far-yes,
excitingly and tantalizingly far-to those for whom God is, naturally, beyond their sphere.
Dear people of God: join those who
move, even with so much as arthritic abandon. Not even an alternate route will produce regret.
