God Has Visited His People
In this Sunday's Gospel lesson, the crowd exclaims after the raising of young man of Nain, "God has visited his people" (Lk 7:16)! This verb "visit" is the verb that gives us the English noun "Bishop." Unfortunately, we no longer know what the word Bishop means. It means an overseer of the flock, literally a "visitor." As an LCMS VP, I have been part of the LCMS-mandated program of visiting in the church. The program of visitation can see to many things, however, it is primarily doing what Jesus did in Luke 7, to raise the dead from the bier of sin. Don't keep weeping, for the dead are raised because God has visited and still visits His people in Christ and those whom He sends.

Sunday's Scripture Readings & Hymns

If you have small children (and even if you don't), you can learn the hymns we will be singing in preparation for Sunday. My daughter, Hilary, noticed small children singing hymns from memory in the church she attends in St. Louis and concluded that families were teaching the hymns to them so they could sing them, although they could not read. "Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise" (Ps 84:4)!

VBS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
The Memorial Lutheran Church Board of Parish Education is seeking volunteers to assist with VBS. The dates for VBS are 20-24 June, 9:00 AM to Noon. We have specific needs for VBS. Along with our youth volunteers, we need 3 snack people, 2 crafts and 2 lesson teachers for the Pre-School "3s" and Pre-K. Please sign up online
